Yeah I don't ever bother to categorize art. I find it highly counterproductive and against the nature of art itself to put 4 walls around it and give it a name.

I tend to categorize anything that looks like it lacks talent to create as crap.

Even though, some simple, modern art has indeed pleased my eyes, and so I've strayed from making generalizations even there. Sometimes things anyone could have made are impressive because this guy or that guy made it first.

ive been watching old popeye and tom and jerry cartoons, every episode is exactly the same but goddamn they're well animated

you are too close minded I think, you automatically write anything off just because Japs made it and yet you are watching tom and jerry and popeye over and over again, its the same effect as some naruto fanboy watching naruto over and over and writing off tom and jerry as shit. Of course these are just general observations that could possibly not be true but yeh. And now for a..,,,

I pretty much agree with everything Thor said on the last page you can't hate something because of its style you can hate something because it sucks though. There is light years of difference between your typical cutesy ^_^ anime and say something like Samurai Champloo or Cowboy Bebop, or Mind Game, or Akira, etc.

And you can't just sit and watch Tom & Jerry over and over now matter how great and impressive it is that the motion is amazing and the cels are all hand painted, yes it is very impressive, but after awhile it becomes the same old thing and if all you are doing is the same old thing over and over then you aren't accomplishing anything real.

i personally find work with other genres a bit more helpful for getting me out of art slumps and the such

i never wrote anything off. i said i appreciate miyazaki and all that hyper realistic shit like samurai shampoo or whatever animes you wanna list off as good. and i never overglorified those old cartoons either. like i said, each episode is the same thing. i dont sit there all day and watch the same formulaic shit over and over. i just appreciate them for the craftsmanship. i wasn't even comparing them to anime, i was just saying they're neat.

basically it boils down to this. i dont hate all anime, but in my opinion, i have never seen an anime that couldn't have been made even more enjoyable had it not been an anime at all

Fucking best anime series ever.

As a kid i drew lots of Rocko and co, then i kind of moved into Pokemon and eventually DBZ (going so far as to write a 155 page incredibly badly drawn manga") and then when i got flash i kinda, i have no idea what happened, i spent years tweening things, making bad character models and forgot how to draw, i only really started drawing again 2 years ago, and thats why i suck like a little kid again (or maybe i was always born to suck)
