I've probably spent 200+ hours across all three Sims games just building and decorating houses. The game is wish fulfillment, no doubt, but not everyone wishes to see digital versions of people they might know tortured >>;

when I was in middle school where I played a lot of Sims 2, I made a lot of young married gay couples who would have silky hair, eyeliner, and the first few simdays of playing them I always made sure they worked out so they'd have hot bods. I was very proud of this fact, while being extra careful not to have anyone catching me giggling at two shirtless yaoi twinks making out in their underwear on my computer screen. The Night Life expansion added a lot of great romance interactions. Going through my initial questioning phrase, the Sims 2 was a good outlet for me since there was no limit to what two sims could do just because of their gender.
