Well, it is a game. But it's a game with more emphasis on liberty and choice, rather than having to abide by certain rules. The sim in the screenshots you see me playing with doesn't even have a real job and has lived off his own labor by self-sufficiently growing his own food, fishing in ponds, and doing oddjobs around town. He doesn't make a lot of income, but he goes through a lot of fun adventures and it's a nice enough challenge too!

Engines provide a great deal of heat sinks, and I do have a few doubles installed, but I couldn't afford the engine i wanted quite yet and the stock one was too heavy and slow - without the engine, the amount of actual heat sinks drops, and so does the heat efficiency. The reason for this is that every basic movement also generates heat, and the intention is for ballistics-heavy mechs to use their tonnage for guns instead of heat sinks without having to worry so much, just like how long-range missile boats have to trade armor for heat sinks and ammo to be effective. The XL385 I wanted (I used to roll 400 in closed but they removed it for assaults apparently, if not altogether) costs about 6.5 mil credits, so I simply couldn't afford it at the time - I just made my 'mech look nice and after a few games with the stock loadout realized it just didn't feel right. More powerful engines also increase your actual turning speed and such, and I was both too slow and unable to effectively track and target moving enemies in a reasonable amount of time, wasting away much of my potential damage output due to my torso not turning fast enough (leaving my torso-mounted PPCs. That being said, the actual aiming is a lot more responsive compared to closed, so when I do get my engine I will hopefully be able to match the destructive potential I had back then. I really do like the ERPPC Awesome even though most people think the PPC sucks due to damage spread and high heat generation, but the double heat sink upgrade and large engine should keep me running cool, while the high speed should keep me out of harms way as far as more brawler-oriented assaults are concerned.
