I'm not saying to abandon newgrounds. It's one of the few places we have. I'm just saying it's silly to think the place will ever blossom into some sort of haven. The place exists for lowbrow comedy. It always has, always will.

What the KK (and other various spam groups) has done is dilute the whole point of spam. People make spam to be fashionable now. It's accepted by the majority as "ok"
It doesnt piss off anyone like it used to because people have realized, it's meant to piss them off. In a way, it's a good thing because it means we made most of the general audience smart enough to realize when they're being fucked with, on the other hand it makes it very difficult to rile them up anywhere except on the bbs.

i would argue thats definitely not a good thing at all. it takes the fun out of doing pretty much anything on NG anymore. thats why we've lost motivation. its not that those morons who used to be so easily pissed off have gotten any smarter. they're just as dumb as ever. its that theyve gotten so jaded by the KK and the flood of shitty knockoffs they just flat out no longer care. they realize that if they don't care, the crews will cease to exist. and that is why crews are impossible to maintain anymore without degenerating into a cesspool of in-fighting and drama. that is also why the SS functions much better as a forum than an NG crew

It's easy to say things like that. But what really counts as an innovative flash these days? There's plenty of people still submitting great original material to newgrounds. Just cause a group suddenly join together to do it, wont send ripples across the community or cause any change.
I'm not saying making a flash crew devoted to making good flash is a bad idea, or a useless one.

well like i said, the goal isnt to change a bunch of nerdy idiots' minds. its more to weed out those with good taste and/or talent from the mountains of terrible users. 3 yrs ago, you wouldnt have been able to tell me apart from the rest of the morons because i talked just like them. secksey! teh pwn! luff list! its so easy to change your internet persona, im sure there are more than a few people who look like fags, but are actually talented, cool people. we wouldnt have to make ripples if we attracted one or two fantastic new artists to our cause with a nice lil series.
also its not a crew, just a series. anyone can contribute if they make something cool. and the point of the series isn't just original material, its experimentation. its not just general good quality, its using techniques that haven't been done before. things like integrating flash and video or animating pure visual music. or just whatever trippy ass shit crosses your mind. whatever. it can still be funny, it can still have story. it doesnt have to be artsy. i just want to see how far flash can be pushed as a program

I'd just like to point out that Throwback the Duck is not really a video game parody. It's a legitimate and original story about a completely new character who happens to like video games. Was it funny? Not really. Was it well animated? Nope, especially considering the shit Comlock can do with a pencil and paper. He is better than Disney, and I'm not kidding.



And honestly, I don't give a shit about the audience. It's pointless to try and do things. Just make something and people who like it will let you know, and thats that.

Ah well, many of you already said what I wanted to say so I'll say something from myself. I would like to share this with you guys because I think you folks are cool.


AND NOW PREPARE FOR A HUGE WALL OF TEXT, it's just me rambling my opinion don't bother to read them yet if you're not in the mood


Originally, I got to Newgrounds because some folks at my school were watching Xiao Xiao stick movies and playing some dating-sim games (LMAO) and I thought "Oooh, these stuffs are pretty cool" and then I got hooked to Newgrounds. That was about 6 years ago I think. But Newgrounds wasn't the first flash site I visited though, it was www.stickdeath.com (it was cool for me in it's early days.) One of the reason I got hooked to Newgrounds was because the flash movies that are made and available in my local websites are boring and I felt Newgrounds was something different and more refreshing.

And back then, I don't have hi-speed internet yet and so most of the flash movies I watch are the ones with small size and quick to watch. I didn't bother to watch most of the stuffs that need long loading time so I watched many video game parodies for fun (and yes, I got hooked to legendaryfrog's stuffs back then.)
But then this flash movie called "Qi" caught some attention to me and I decided to wait and watch it and back then I was like "WOAH WOAH wow is there something awesome like this in Newgrounds!!?" And even after all these years I still think it's a brilliant flash movie. I haven't seen anything like that for many years in Newgrounds now. This is probably the first flash movie that made me to appreciate more original content. I always have this "flash movies and cartoons are just cheap knock-offs and for fun to watch, they'll never get serious" in my mindset and that movie proved me wrong.

It was only around the year 2005 I think that I got some motivation to try some flash movie. And I actually started by trying to make a parody cartoon. I watched legendaryfrog's flash movies and try to tween like he did when I realized "Meh, this is just lame" and I felt extremely discouraged actually when I saw Adam Philip's "Bitey Of the Brackenwood" I was thinking "that movie is just too damn good, I don't think I'll be able to do any flash movies at this rate."

So I didn't come to Newgrounds and got sucked to University... and then I actually come back again to watch some flash movies in the year 2006. It was Metal Gear Awesome I think that sparked my interest in flash movies again (I still haven't considered making flash movies at that time) and then I saw the SS collab 'Men's Wearhouse' and I thought "this shit is just totally badass" so I looked for more about the SS and Rtil and found out about the story that the group make lots of spam movies and like to mock people who made video game parodies. I'll be honest with you guys here, I originally thought the Star Syndicate were are bunch of close minded people who are jealous of popular flash artists so they had to spam movies and Rtil was just a flash artist elitist who isn't that good but pretends to be cool and only good at mocking people. That changed however, when I saw him submitting his "Metropolis Circuit" and I finally realized he's the real deal. And it actually sparked me to start making flash movie again. I mean, Rtil only start entering the flash world in the year 2005 and only about 2 years he can make a masterpiece like that. And finally I decided to join TBA when he made that "awesome grounds" news article.

Well, I think the majority of the NG audiences seems to get the WRONG impression about the star syndicate and Rtil. I mean, look what I said earlier in my article. I originally thought Rtil was a jerk (not now anymore ) and people seems to missed the main goal that Rtil is trying to make and that is to spread knowledge about animations and to encourage people to do genuine work.


Ok if you guys actually managed to read that whole story, kudos to you. That's my story about Newgrounds and me and how I actually got here in TBA. What I'm trying to say is that Newgrounds will always be like it will and for the audiences, some will grow out of it and some may stick to what they like. You can see how I sort of evolved during my stay in Newgrounds. And yeah, I only made an NG account back in 06, I should made one earlier... well, that's too bad.

now that newgrounds is susceptible to mass exposure (their traffic doubled from jan 2007 to jan 2008), spam groups don't get the attention they crave anymore. i think it's time to move on and make those projects people always wished they would have made. but instead a lot of them just give up and decide to follow the crowd.

yeah same here. i first came to NG in like 2000 so i could play the "kill britney spears" game tom made. then i really started goin there a lot in 04. i remember the first few times i watched dailytoons i hated everything about them. i just LOVED my gay little NGBBS and all of my faggot "BBS friends" and the SS were a bunch of insulting assholes who attacked the way us BBS regs talked and acted. on the first ever daily day, i left bad reviews on all the dailytoons saying "thank god they're over!"
then, i watched a movie that instantly changed my mind. it was a shitty flash made for hlg's "teh academy," one of the first ever SS knockoff crews. i couldnt help cracking up after i saw it i dont even remember why. it had captain planet and niggas or something. then there was grandfatherclock's "The Ozcar Show," still one of the funniest flashes ive ever seen. then of course, i saw this flash:
