some of those criticisms are valid. some, like saying the overworld has no variety, aren't at all. describing game mechanics to a person with a negative bias always makes the game look more boring than it is, but if this guy doesn't like the game, that's his opinion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

well morrowind was fantastic (even though it aged horribly)

oblivion kind of blew chunks half the time

skyrim was better but it has shitty UI and doesn't feel like a huge leap from oblivion really

i got the fallout 3 goty thing discounted on steam and it was pretty much crap, so i didn't put any money into new vegas

my brother got it though and i tried it and it was really more of the same shit from FO3, even recycling the graphics - why not just call it fallout 3; new vegas?

where the fuck did you get "you're not allowed to write negative reviews of games" from "gamers feel a sense of entitlement"? are you mad because you paid $60 for a game you didn't like without doing any research? you can't take that out on me, you have no one but yourself to blame.

at the end of the day, game studios are out to make a profit. unrealistic expectations from advertisements and overzealous press releases about what the game is going to be like is only the fault of the gullible consumer who falls for the same trap every time.

i've never played any of the elder scrolls games. but obviously they are doing something right, and they have absolutely NO obligation to appease the demands of their consumers and what their ideal version of the game should be like. most of them probably don't have the first clue about how to develop a game or even basic marketing strategies, because they consistently buy in and then complain when they get exactly what they paid for.

quality products in an industry are driven by competition, not the unbearable whining of jaded gamers who will never be satisfied with products they buy anyway. hell, they're not even the target demographic.

bethesda did improve a lot of things but it never feels like they actually commit to blowing you away with something new, polished and bug-free

i mean fuck they just pour money into shit and hope it doesn't blow up in their face, they had all these fancy hollywood actors and whatever but the characters have the worst animation so in the end it doesn't help the game's immersion at all because you still have characters that kind of flail around aimlessly and flap their mouths (though it's not as bad as oblivion)

morrowind was a great game for its time because it was open and pretty with an interesting setting and a great, unique story, the tale of the nerevarine and dagoth ur is just so much more giving than fighting the demonworshippers in oblivion and dragons of skyrim, if the gameplay was easier to get into (it has aged very poorly) it would easily take the title of RPG of the decade

but it didn't really seem to matter, did it? according to valve, it's the fastest selling game ever on steam with over 10 million copies sold. guess that's 10 million "huge idiot nerds" who bought a slightly improved product from its predecessor.

you have to understand that with sequels you can't set the bar amazingly higher every time, otherwise you set yourself up for failure. they purposely hold things back - it's a very smart business move.

it's like what apple does with its hardware and accessories, and they have one of the most successful business models on the planet.

well the thing is oblivion is 5 years old, and in those 5 years all they've done is make a game whose main selling point is being less fucking retarded than its predecessor

it pretty much runs on the same engine with only slightly improved character models and a few fancy effects here and there, and hollywood actors

i don't see how not being thorough is a better option when they've poured so much money into it

i mean i LIKE skyrim but i'm not going to ignore the fact that every bethesda game ever is a glitchy mess an the characters are almost as stiff and badly animated as they were a decade ago
