Best part of the game so far is when you find the power to turn into a werewolf and you suddenly transform in the middle of a normal fight and some enemies just shit themselves completely. Also running through giants herding territory is a great way of getting rid of overwhelming enemy numbers. Alternatively if a giant ends up chasing you early on (almost an unwinnable fight) just run into a bandit camp or enemy/aggressive animal group nearby and giant gets occupied and stops chasing.

Modders are already toiling on solutions to this

(And other unmentionable additions)

Also if you look around you can find some pretty great .ini fixes that add some visual splendor that was disabled by default

I feel like this game is getting a little more press than it should when compared to the witcher 2, another great rpg that came out a few months back and got almost as good reviews (and looks a lot better in my opinion). Definitely worth checking out if you get the chance (the first one isn't worth playing really, feels too dated).

i have to say, while skyrim looks impressive (i'm not actually playing it), the graphics certainly could be better. definitely not the best on the market by any means

because witcher sucked limp dick and witcher 2 thus held no interest

granted, oblivion was a shitty game compared to morrowind, and skyrim is in many ways more of the same, but it does away with some of oblivion's worst aspects and has less horrifying character models

skyrim is only like 5 gigs, they really should have given it better textures even if they had to up the size a little

but hey... all the recent elder scrolls games support mods, there's bound to be custom visual tune-ups like there was for morrowind and oblivion

Textures and geometry may be lacking but it's still pretty damn striking at times, and the world design is undeniably fantastic. Witcher 2 is technically superior, but 90% of what you see in those games cannot be explored. It comes nowhere near Skyrim's scale.

Well yeah, I think Skyrim's (or elder scrolls in general more or less) main appeal is the fact that you can really go anywhere and do almost anything. A 'true' RPG so to speak, and few games get anywhere near that level, although not that many try.

i mean sure the menus are horribly consolified, the textures aren't that great, and technically it's only slightly better than oblivion, and yes some parts are obviously nowhere near as fleshed out as they should be (the quest to destroy the dark brotherhood comes to mind)

but hey

it's still not as bad as oblivion or the bethesda fallout games

that in itself is a fucking milestone good job bethesda you recycled the same engine and facial animations again but you learned SOMETHING from past mistakes

I'd rather it was possible to take down all the other guilds too. Hell i'd rather it was possible to rise up and try to take over all of skyrim yourself.
