Been suffering from an art block. Mostly because I've been having a tricky time less-stylizing and understanding-the-things-I'm-stylizing. I have pages and pages of sucky drawings and I feel weird using "different" (or just realistic) proportions, but hey, it's part of the process--Not gonna share those though, 'cause they're just embarrassing. It was also weird attempting to "teach" stylizing to someone who has really good control over her anatomy/proportions; Further proof to me that it's a perception/understanding thing.

It was interesting watching more experienced artists on Livestream attempt drawing my characters though. I could tell which parts were unclear to them and it made me think a little more about "How on EARTH would THIS look at a DIFFERENT ANGLE/IRL" (thinking in 3D and more concrete shapes, basically; ex: noses, eyes, hair). On these pages, I decided to experiment with expressions and mouth shapes. They're noooot quite at where I want them to be yet (sharp-teeth guy especially; I really need to know his teeth/jaws better; I need to know the woman's HEAD/FACE better, even if it's just a sphere; I was referencing a mirror for each of the expressions and I clearly emoted better than my drawings did)...

But drawing new things = LEARNING!

I've mentioned that the reasons why I draw animals much better than I do humans is because I see the shapes better and because I do this crazy comparative anatomy thing. Horses aren't ridiculously hard to draw (because I drew horseys more or less like this since I was 12), but they are challenging because upon closer observation, their joints/limbs are a lot different-but-similar than I thought. Horseys walk on their "fingers"... As if their fingers fused into 1 per limb...

Forelegs are still tricky for me to draw because they end up looking longer than they really are supposed to look. Or, alternatively, they take a lot more thought to be anatomically correct...

Perspective problems/challenges = Yeah, I need to work on that too somehow.

WHILE I'M AT IT, PONIES!!1!

Those are very nice. c:

I remember you saying something about the animal and human anatomy n such ect... Idk of this will help you but i have this pdf which might be handy for drawing humans better. (I really should be reading it myself too) For all the people that i have given a copy to, i only received a positive feedback.

Its called "Dynamic Life Drawing for Animators."

I hope it helps. Good luck and keep it up!

Warm up doodles for an impromptu art trade (some of which you can see on the right). The lady was from a dream I head, the sheep because I wanted to try something inspired by Chris Sanders (see: his sheep from Kung Fu Panda), and the rabbit pirate because... I don't even know. I tried drawing another sheep and it became a rabbit instead.

rtil

i saw that piece of his. his proportions and anatomy are whacked out in ways i can't even describe. he's gotten a lot better at animation but i feel like his foundations are still shakey when it comes to a solid drawing. imo you are better at creating interesting poses and even in anatomy in some respects.

Hnilmik, have an art trade with me, tyvm

kirbopher can't draw, animate or do anything else artistic worth shit

I should've scanned this before drawing on the other side... Arms look weird in the unintentional way—I wanted her arms to look strange, but methinks I need to give them more "form" to make more sense and look less like bent-wrong-way.

She's a fire phantom and her arms are supposed to stretch and bend at weird angles. Debating whether the stripes should look "flat" (but not this stupid kind of flat; I dunno what it's called, but they did it in Gankutsuou).

Finally tried drawing one character for the first time (or one of his forms, at least) and he's a feathered serpent. Snakes never scare me and it was tricky trying to figure out a way to make him even remotely intimidating and NOT a dragon. Gonna keep working on his design.

Experimented with skulls and expressions again.

Eyes + Skull are giving me the most grief, so I'm likely gonna try working on that soon. It's so weird being able to see how much the eyes overwhelm the head now, so that means figuring out more proportion-stuffs, I think...

Had a tough time figuring out a way to attempt over-simplifying the fire phantom's arms (as suggested by a peer), so I decided to experiment with the fact that those arms are meant to be big. This character suddenly became too much fun to draw...

That gap is so darn hard to close... That wolf/jackal/thing was doodled in less than 15 seconds, I kid you not...

Meanwhile, kirb's side of the art trade~
