the game has crashed on me 3 times now randomly while playing. i have an ati radeon hd3850. never had this problem with a game before

but when I started it up first, I decided to restart my computer, so i quit, restarted and opened TF2 again, then it had to update AGAIN which was kind of weird.

Anyways, i played the game and i can definitely see why people like it. I thought it was a fun game, I probably won't buy it unless it's 2.50$ again but still, nice game. The scout is pretty hardcore, and so is the heavy. I can't play with the other classes. (Sniper especially, due to my high ping of 240)

i like the map rotation bug put in

i updated my drivers but i still have this problem where on occassion the game will freeze and the sound will loop the last half a second or so

most of the time it comes out of it, but sometimes it doesn't and i have to alt+tab and force quit the game

in any case tomorrow is my last free day so it doesnt matter really

i checked out the steam forums and there are hundreds of people complaining about this with no real answer. it could be anything really, i've changed a lot of stuff around and tried to isolate the problem with no real leads. it's certainly not a performance issue, i play company of heroes on full settings and get 30+ fps and that game has NEVER crashed or stuttered on me.

even if the game goes down to 2.50 i'm not paying for a game that runs this poorly. i will keep trying to fix the problem as i am interested in what is causing it (hoping it's not hardware), but my free trial runs out tomorrow

rtil the first vid happens to me quite a bit, and it seems to happen more often when I'm fighting people.
That, and my other problem is that it'll end up clicking me/moving my cursor outta the window during this too, so I'll die wherever I was.
I think it's just that I'm on a laptop though

Also I've been meaning to set up some kind of admin/reserve slots etc which i will try and do tonight

adding -dxlevel 81 to my launch options seems to have removed the problem completely. this is odd because it was originally in there along with some other launch options but the problem remained. i'm assuming this acts as a directx 8.1 emulator, which would imply that directx9 was causing the issue/conflicting with something

because i've told everyone i'm not even sure i want it, so they might be wasting their money

and even if i did, i spoke too soon. after about an hour and a half it started happening again. so i turned off anti-aliasing and it hasn't happened since and it's been another hour.. i don't really get it though. there's no performance difference and i'm getting 60+ fps with 8x AA, but when i had it on it started doing it again

my free trial ends tomorrow at noon so i won't be able to test it again and i'm sick of testing it tonight. i've been on this for 6 hours now and i couldn't even isolate the problem

Rtil, you MUST like the game if you're trying that hard to fix it. No one in their right mind would spend 6 hours trying to fix something they don't care about just for the sake of fixing it.

I think it's because you're using XP x64 but I'm not super sure, nor is that an acceptable reason for a game to be assed.

Im getting this exact same trouble with all of the 3D games in my computer, except once the sound starts looping, the computer crashes like 10 seconds later.
