I said, "If I can't catch up on recording, I can catch up on writing instead!" That didn't happen and I sketched a lot. There were more head/face sketches, but they were painful to look at.

The closest thing to a group pic that I'll probably ever draw.

rtil

your sister's got the idea. think of the eye as a sphere that sits underneath a sideways v-shape on a profile view. not a perfect v or anything but you see what i mean when you look at it

I love the bat on the 1st page looking over his shoulder  It has a nice body form and the head angle is good too. Also his open grin is just plain cute haha.

Btw, your brother's drawing reminded me of beartato heh

My little brother is obsessed with bears, haha~

Last doodle of the year! I wasn't keeping track, but this was easy/quick to draw...

It's so weird to revisit my drawings from earlier this year...

Hnilmik

First doodle of the year to remind myself what it's like to draw using a tablet and color. Wanted to keep coloring, but didn't know what else to do. I wonder how long it's going to take to narrow the gap between my traditional drawing skills and digital drawing skills?

lenko

for some reason your digital pieces feel a lot stiffer than your trad things, that might come to you needing more practice with the tablet though

it'd be more interesting with some shading to make it pop out

Hnilmik

Definitely gonna try practicing more with a tablet. I tried doodling in Photoshop earlier this week and my lines were REALLY unstable. They were tons more shaky than they were in Tegaki, so that must mean something. Not sure how my lines will turn out when I have to draw these guys in Flash.

As for shading, I'm trying to think about the best and/or most productive way to shade for an animation, thus my kinda fail attempt at "cel shading" some time ago. Got any tips to keep in mind?

Meanwhile, I did a color test to see if certain colors would work with the knight I drew earlier. They kinda did. Now I'm worried about her giving too much of a furry vibe when she's meant to be beautiful, but was never human to begin with...

And I like how I keep fogetting Baihu's gender every time I draw her... Him... It...

To think, I used to draw her(?) like THIS:

Hnilmik

So in 2009, I accidentally drew Meg. It was horrible. I was thinking about what Disney characters may or may not have influenced my drawing style, with the curves, angles, and at times, pointy noses. I narrowed it down to Meg from Hercules (since I was HUGE Hercules fan as a kid) and Clopin from Hunchback of Notre Dame ('cause he was a badass and even as a kid I knew he was more awesome than the other characters).

Fail!Clopin can be seen scribbled out, but Meg... She was kinda fun and "easy" to draw. Of course, not a spitting image, but I wasn't exactly struggling with the curves and angles. Drew her face separately since the blank expression in the full body doodle was blah/boring.

Sooo... About the head/faces thing. I'm not even sure if I'm going it right. Evident by my attempt at Gengar. "Mouth that supposedly curves around the head" =/= Understanding the shape of a HEAD. Gengar, do you even have a head asdfehjggsdjk

Might try coloring in Photoshop later. Might.

Now, clearly, Tegaki lets me do pretty clean-ish lines. Stiff, but clean.

Photoshop, on the other hand, wants me to go to hell.

As for Flash, I like how my lines turned out smooth/clean-ish... Because of smoothing, which is semi-cheating. It was almost too easy, but quite a few of my lines ended up being too thick in places where I didn't want them to be, so it looks like I need to work on figuring out how to properly apply pen pressure.

(Funny how I've been doodling all this time with a ballpoint pen and haven't figured it out as well as I thought.)

I know my friends found a way to unlock pressure sensitivity on Tegaki, so I might try to figure that out or get convolutedly lazy and just draw in a bunch of programs.

QuoteHere's my Tyra Banks impression.

Naw, I'm kidding, this is actually me recording for an audition that wanted alien noises. See, one of my wishlist roles is an animal/monster/alien/whatever that utilizes my "WTF IS THAT NOISE" ability.

For as long as I remember, one of my biggest heroes is Dee Bradley Baker for his "WTF IS THAT NOISE" ability and yeah, he totally corners that market, but one of these days... ONE OF THESE DAYS... MY DREAM WILL COME TRUE!

Not sure if I'll get cast, but you can check out/download the better sound quality here for all your abusive needs:

Crabarms

Those noises are great!
Your wtf-is-that-noise ability is convincing and terrifying.

Hnilmik

Glad ya liked it!

I'd be more than happy to! Haha, you're like my hero for letting me voice a crow and some more monster noises in your cartoon~

Shida

Eeeee~ I DEFINITELY look forward to it, Shida!

I was having a creativity meltdown/block. My sketches were too embarrassing to scan in and I fried my brain working on a script all day. Tablet practice yielded this crack.

Me: 1 / Art Block: 1

Hnilmik

I wasn't allowed to record until I made some progress on a screenplay.

I'm still fighting a creativity block, so that hampered my creative juices for writing.

If you actually get annoyed looking at my "art", please trust and believe me that I'm 10x's more annoyed than you are 'cause I'm the one drawing it and I usually have no idea what I'm doing the majority of the time.

Drawn during ALA 2011, especially January 7th. The right side of the notebook features the beginning of an art block.

Drawn shortly upon getting home.

Then I drew this under a minute and wanted to punch a wall.

Hnilmik

I drew in class. I'm still trying to figure out how to draw that guy right since it's always his head not getting along with the rest of his body. Ended up with a shorter/younger(?) version of him with wonky arms.
