how come most stick animators have a very nice timing and are good at making cartoony explosions?

it's nice, but I think 70% of all the good stick animators out there have exactly the same style, makes it kind of uninteresting to watch.

Not saying you're a bad animator though, I like it. Just start to do some fullbody, as you said.

because as stick animators we learn to master movements in a short period of time because, with sticks you can produce many frame by frame animations quickly thus improving your movements drastically. And when our movements are mastered we also learn other things like timing and explosions quickly because of the same reasons that our movements have become mastered. Do you get what im saying.
And im gonna go towards fullbody probably when i get my own computer and tablet.

rtil

good timing but yeah i'd have to agree with psi, faceless bodiless stick animations are just too stale to introduce anything new. it'd be interesting to see your style in full body

zomfgbie

is smooth and stuff but its exaclty like every other stick fighting movie i have ever seen there really is no originality

i mean exactly with the starting pose, the 1pt line backgrounds, the explosions are the same
i am dead

<+wwchicken> once i walked into the kitchen and there was a sound
<+wwchicken> but i could only hear it when i stood on one spot in the kitchen
<+wwchicken> then i turned off the light
<+wwchicken> and it was gone
<+wwchicken> then i turned the light back on and there it was again
<+wwchicken> so i thought, its an invisible alien
<+wwchicken> but hes scared of the dark

i see what all of you are saying, and i want to go to fullbody, but i cant draw worth shit with a mouse, when i get my tablet ill start on full body but for now, i animate sticks.

zomfgbie

ok fair enough. drawing with a mouse is an ass

ok, im sory i didnt post in the intro forum first, is it really that big a deal? And besides i dont think animations make it under the introduction category.

zomfgbie

no but you make an introduction topic then you post your own artwork in the flash/artwork upload forum the animation forum is generally for discussing animation

but hey i dont run this place. anyway welcome, and dont be so uppity around these parts, boy

The intro forum really doesn't matter, Jordan just makes a big deal out of it

it's still nice, but whatever
<+fawx> im trying to animate a dick coming out of a toaster how do i go on about doing this
<~rtil> well fawx what you would do is delete the fla and do something productive instead

<+ansel> i lure children into my van with candy and then i read them passages from 'the origin of species'
<%ropesnake> billy con ends with billy raping his cat
<+billymonks> FUCK YOU BUG

<~rtil> ya one time i gave this hobo some cat food and he ate it like the animal he is it pleased me

the jump and run at the beginning of #2 is a little slow timing-wise. instead of 2 steps he probably could have taken 1. nice little tests.

it was originally for 24 fps but after the jump it all looked like shit, so i wnet down to 14

zomfgbie

14fps? bumb that up noa boy

you do have a good grasp of timing, just get working on full body. sticks have their limits

I always thought I should learn timing with sticks, but believe it or not, I can't draw stick figures, so I always went right for full body.
I was gone, FOR SO LONG

rtil

it's best to learn timing using non-human objects. a human is too complicated and jumping the gun on animation. that's why most animators start out with classical bouncing ball and flour sack tests.

if you think thats low you should see how any different fps's stick animators use.
We range from 10-48
and i thought most people started with sticks.
