the collective negative reaction to this seems to be "i'm not transphobic but [says something transphobic]"

if people are getting this assblasted over an npc you can ignore who happens to be trans i can't imagine how much more mileage they'll get out of their keyboard warrior sessions when one of them is a mc
I think part of the moaning stems from this character's being so hamfisted.

It's never been a problem before as far as I know, but my knowledge is mostly relegated to JRPGs. I've heard BioWare's games have similar issues with tokenism.

This is more just a problem with the internet being an open platform for the first world and so people being absolutely appalled by such backwards second/third world lines of thinking is always front page news for sources who have nothing better to do than drum up controversy.

The issue is endemic to the the user reviews system I think. Everyone's a critic now, including your racist uncle.

I don't want to get into specifics, but I used to work for a mining company in Cornflake, Arkansas. It was your standard run down outfit left on its last legs by an unlucky combination of new labor legislation and budget cuts. But I was shocked most of all by the state of the restrooms. Each door of the toilet stalls had been sawed in half, revealing the upper part of each occupant while they did their business. It was gross. A gallery of sweaty, discolored, straining faces would stare back at you as you walked through the restroom to just take a leak or wash your hands.

When I asked the staff about the doors, they told me that one particular sick fuck kept drilling holes in the stall walls. He would sit in the stalls throughout the day, spying on miners who were shitting. If he had a miner next to him and he was absolutely certain the rest of the bathroom was empty, he would ejaculate into the neighboring stall using the gloryhole he had drilled. The miners were always caught in the middle of shitting and couldn't chase him down so the homo was never caught. Since this was Cornflake Arkansas, the management decided not to install security cameras just outside the bathroom, and instead opted to cut the toilet doors in half so no one could masturbate or peep in total seclusion.

After a couple of weeks and many, many complaints, the management were starting to reconsider. Still and all, they were worried, as they hadn't IDed the sicko and brought him in. At this point it's worth keeping in mind that the mine building had those thin, cheap styrofoam ceilings (think of the crappy ones in school classrooms you can push up with a broom handle) and the walls climbed as high as them and then stopped. This meant there was a hidden passage running between all the rooms you could reach if you climbed above the ceiling. (A little side note: if you ever have to stay a night in a hotel with those ceilings and feel brave, do a little searching above the foam tiles running along the nearby rooms. In the case that it's an "open ceiling" and there's no wall dividing the two rooms, you can find all kinds of weird stuff passed between them (porno mags, bags of weed, condoms). I've personally seen this more than a few times in the Mid-West, but not so much in Arkansas, so you can imagine what happened here stuck in my memory.)

Anyhow, back to the story: one day while a miner was showering, a skinny, scab-ridden white dude fell through through the tile ceiling into the shower. The miner freaked the hell out and ran nude into the bathroom hall. But he quickly realized what was up and began beating the shit out of the f****t. The two were soaked and covered in dust and grime from the broken ceiling panels. A few more miners held down the f*g for the cops to come get him (but he was probably enjoying that). It soon turned out that the perv would head into the shower block late at night when it was understaffed. He'd climb up above the ceiling when nobody was looking and spend the whole day jerking off and peeping at miners while they shat and showered. When the owners finally cleaned out his den up there they found tons of syringes, jizzrags, cigarette ends and food wrappers. From the amount of trash that was cleaned out they estimated he had been holing up there for months on end.

i watched the npc dialogue and i didn't find it all that forced. you don't have to ask about her name and she spends 10 seconds explaining it and the conversation is over.

idk anything about this franchise so maybe without that it is actually hamfisted but from the perspective of a casual, uninterested onlooker i have to say it seems pretty harmless

Oh so it's just the Internet overreacting again #shocker.

Also the best thing ever happened today.

finally gamergate can get back to ethics in video game journalism

Blizzard played everyone like a fucking fiddle. My respect for them increased like 10 fold.

It's a stupid reason to buy the game but I never claimed to be smart.

Worth a lot in my book.

I still cannot believe how much hilarious/stupid stuff has happened recently. It all started with that retarded UN bill a month ago.

zwimmy

I don't even wanna begin reading this thread.

The sip was meant to convey that I don't think you're doing yourself or anyone a service by not engaging with a line of thinking you disagree with and articulating why. We're all mostly reasonable folks here. That's partially what this thread has been about.

If you're worried about transphobic shit ITT you really shouldn't be. If there is, you can point it out and explain why.

zwimmy

Ok I read the thread.

I'm not really sure where I stand politically but since I'm trans, there's this tendency for me to gravitate to the left. And whenever I hear people talk about "those fucking feminists/sjw/tumblr/etc" I feel uneasy. Cause to most people I'm automatically in that camp.

Maybe I just need to not take things personally, I dunno. I'm like, tense all the time.

It's funny, cause like, in real life, ever since I came out, I've never had any negative experiences. I don't think I've even been misgendered. Then again I don't have a job or go to college or go out much lmao. It's like a lot of this shit is just in my mind. I really need to just chill out. I'm rambling on...

Uhh what point was I trying to make again?

I think like... This whole thing is really stupid. This like, internet battlefield. I'm pretty tired of it all. I'm INFP so I guess I have a tendency to want everyone to just chill and get along.

I'm kinda tired right now but I wanted to just say something. Maybe I'll think of something better tomorrow.

Bamyasi

I think any kind of discussion about these things is healthy, it just becomes a problem when either side resorts to bullying tactics left over from Web 1.0 (I've been guilty of this before, even recently). The internet is supposedly a more cordial place now, but it's really just that meatspace and cyberspace are now entangled. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think zwimmy is more concerned with the dangers of meatspace, but, as stated, the two aren't easily decoupled, and can exacerbate one another.

I'm INFP as well and am also really tired of this culture war. It just concerns me when so many of our institutions of higher education are bending over for one side instead of teaching it better rhetoric.

What politically incorrect stuff do you guys like? I'm not sure how incorrect it is, but I really love when people speak broken English. I find it really beautiful and endearing, especially when Russians and East Asians do it, which is racist of me. Nonfluent speakers always find ways to use words that would never come naturally to me. I'm a grammar and spelling Nazi in all other cases, but I wouldn't consider this a form of abuse.

I also enjoy pornography.

zwimmy

Yeah, I meant like, the world at large. Being part of a highly marginalized group is fucking scary, man.

Bamyasi

But that feeling stems mostly from things you've read online right? Not from experiences in real life I hope.
