Yeah but to be fair they're not really any more inane than most pop songs. I will say there is good inane and bad inane and Pop It leans more toward the latter.

Still on the fence about the new Panorama Bar mix:

On one hand I think his track selection and mixing skills make it an easy contender for mix of the year, but on the other hand it feels less like the cliched "journey" used to describe a great mix CD and more like a plain sequence of excellent tracks. Like not as much thought was put into the order and mood shifts as in the first 5 installments. That could just be a placebo effect of it being released for free online instead of as a CD though, because most free online mixes feel that way to me.

And yeah crackers that RDJ track is great. It's amazing how much more full and roomy sounding his early stuff was than anything since. As good an illustration as any as to the differences between digital and analog production.

They also did this song recently, and I hate it.

Anamanaguchi - Pop It

i wonder if they're completely abandoning their chiptune sound now cuz it sure sounds like it. when i saw them live they didn't have any chiptune synthesizer equipment with them, it was just the backing track played over their instruments.

Bamyasi

I like it. They sound more like late-2000's era capsule now. Give it a few years and maybe top dollar western producers will have caught up to Nakata-san.

Also I'm posting way too much in this thread I need to calm down.

They don't usually bring the synthesizers with them, if my memory's right. When I first saw them I was hoping one of them would rock out on a synth a little. They tend to do experimental stuff over the summer, like their single Mess a couple years ago. Endless Fantasy had a lot more songs with an EDM feel but there were plenty of pure chiptune songs so I'm thinking they're just branching out.

i guess it's not really possible to play those live, but i didn't think about it at the time. it was still a pretty cool show, although there sure were a lot of high school tumblr girls there. i hung out in the bar and watched from afar.

Do you mean tune as in "best track" or tune as in tone?

Either way yeah at this rate I don't think I'll ever find a pop/IDM hybrid I like as much as Sweet Trip.

Sweet Trip-Palomar, Your Shadow Is The Yellow Sun

I love bubblegum bass (jk I don't like bubblegum bass at all), uk bass, ambient techno, anamanguchi, and poppy IDM as much as the next guy but

Big Ups' Eighteen Hours of Static is AOTYSF yes, yes (if not this, then Dead Congregation's Promulgation Of The Fall, but 90% of you don't like/listen to metal)

I haven't listened to much since early 2014, but if I had to pick a favorite non-dance/electronic album for this year, it would probably be between this and Hotel Valentine:

Lamp 「さち子」 M.V.
I'll give that Big Ups album a shot if you're recommending it that hard.

Thanks for introducing me to チロリン. Where did you find that album? Jpopsuki doesn't have the one with that track.

It was decent, not my favorite hardcore/post-hardcore album I've heard, but I haven't really listened to many aside from the famous ones so I'd appreciate loinself explaining what he liked about it. And yeah I like Shibuya-kei like Lamp because it's the only music that really reminds me what it's like to even just be a person.

Not crazy about the vocals, but this is still the first synthpop album I've been able to get into for a while:

Mr Twin Sister - Out of the Dark
Probably because all the tracks stay clear of the high register synths present in most stuff tumblr pushes like Chvrches and Purity Ring that give me a headache. Also kek at all the stupid hipsters in the comments feeling betrayed when their favorite "lo-fi" tin can band decides to make music that sounds good coming out of something other than Macbook speakers. I guess the same thing happened with Grimes' old new album.

That said I probably won't remember listening to this in a month.

it's hard to find music by them because hardly any of it was digitized. you can find this track and many like it on Techno Magic Kayōkyoku, a compilation created almost a decade ago with a lot of extremely rare japanese techno kayo from the 80's. there are other compilations like this but not many. it's pretty hard to find EP's by the bands in these compilations unless you're willing to purchase vinyl from overseas.

also Chirorin is not the first band to get a recent rendition of one of their singles, just this year Perfume did a modern cover of Juicy Fruits "Jenny Wa Gokigen Naname", everyone thinks Perfume made the song ofc
