I'd appreciate loinself explaining what he liked about it.
I've always been a sucker for the mixing of high-energy punky tunes with noise rock tinges (see a similar album from this year: Greys - If Anything). Plus I really liked the heavy influence of Fugazi and, to a lesser extent, Minor Threat (I Love Fugazi and like Minor Threat). It clearly showed these guys are fans of Ian Mackaye. Anyway yeah the high energy and cool song topics really got me into 18 Hours of Static. Plus there's a lasting appeal to playing the album loud.

In other 2014 Music news; IMO the best shoegaze record of the year, not that it's super contested.

I like Fugazi too. Do you like noise rock in general? If so what are some of your favorite bands? This is another case where I've only heard the famous western/Japanese stuff.

That Nothing track is pretty good. What would it be up against as far as shoegaze releases go?

it's hard to find music by them because hardly any of it was digitized. you can find this track and many like it on Techno Magic Kayōkyoku, a compilation created almost a decade ago with a lot of extremely rare japanese techno kayo from the 80's. there are other compilations like this but not many. it's pretty hard to find EP's by the bands in these compilations unless you're willing to purchase vinyl from overseas.
I import CD's on a regular basis so I'll probably end up doing the same for vinyl once I get a decent USB turntable. It's a fucking crime how hard it is to find and illegally download Showa-era music online considering how much great pop music was released during that period. It doesn't help that youtube is often the easiest place to sample it and they've purged a good portion over the past year due to Japan's international copyright laws.

Like for instance I was going to post this track from youtube but now the whole channel is gone:

http://www.thebackalleys.com/dump/files/1530/852fN9_04%20%E9%83%BD%E4%BC%9A.mp3
Definitely the biggest loss when google revamped their takedown policy/algorithm thing. We're doing such a poor job preserving the internet it feels like we're just letting the Library of Alexandria burn.

Also that Juicy Fruits track is great. Someone who lives in LA or NYC please go see Perfume for me.

get ready to pay far out your ass for them , their rarity on top of the shipping costs make them fetch a pretty penny. it's easier than it used to be with services like Tenso but the lack of availability still makes it a chore. i could only find one copy of one of Masae Ohno's older works for sale and she's had a somewhat successful career. at the very least if they were aidoru you'll probably have better luck as there are a lot of avid collectors and sites dedicated to their work.

as far as Japanese copyright laws go, it is pretty crazy what lengths they'll go to to stop people. in fact, one of the videos i wanted to link that i found only a week ago is gone now, and it was just a recording off a vhs tape from the 80's. it's why a lot of Japan's piracy happens on networks like Share and the "deep web", because they're so afraid of getting caught.

i'm seeing them in november

I'd prefer not to disclose how far out my ass I've paid for certain rare house 12"s on discogs. Most of that stuff is online anyway so this would be like my life's work. I'm prepared to dedicate my life and savings to this (and then have it all ruined once what.cd gets shut down). What VHS rip was it?

Also fuck yes Masae Ohno.

it was a different performance of that song by Juicy Fruits on one of those japanese variety shows. also the quality was much better.

a copy of vinyl is currently on its way to me at this very moment. i can't wait to hear all the tracks off of it, i only have a complete copy of "Eccentric Person Come Back to Me" and some shitty RAM files of some of the other tracks.

Bamyasi

Tell me how it is/where you might upload it. The only work I own featuring her is that blue marble CD. There used to be a fair amount on youtube which sucks because she's great.

rtil

the first thing i'll be doing when i get it is recording it . maybe i'll put it on what.cd but it's such a fucking chore with all their rules , also the condition of the vinyl is VG so it might not be up to their standards or something. guess it really depends on how it comes out

I'm not uber knowledgable on the genre of noise rock, but if done the noise is done right, it can be soooo good. Sonic Youth were really the first noise rock band I had heard, with Daydream Nation. No-wave (basically noise rock with an emphasis on cold, dark sounds with little melody) is comparable to metal with how heavy it can be. Noise Rock bands I REALLY like are famous ones also, like early Swans, Big Black/Rapeman (both bands formed by the producer Steve Albini, who produced numerous famous albums including Nirvana's In Utero), Velvet Underground (especially White Light/White Heat), some of the dronier albums by Boris, Boredoms (who started as straight-up noise), Unwound, and Dinosaur Jr.

An interesting thing about that Nothing - Guilty of Everything album is that it was released on a previously all extreme metal label (Relapse). Some of the other good shoegaze records from this year are Have a Nice Life's Unnatural World (these guys' album, Deathconsciousness, is one of my most favorite albums), A Sunny Day in Glasgow's Sea When Absent, Cheatah's Self-titled, Nadjia's Queller, and Whirr's Sway.

Thanks for the recs. Surprisingly, I'm familiar with all those noise rock bands you mentioned, but it's cool to know we have the same taste there. I'm not a huge fan of early Swans, though. I prefer most everything from Children of God to present. This was the video that introduced me to them, so when I put on Filth for the first time I was expecting it to sound like this (spoilers if you haven't seen Shoujo Tsubaki):

Song For Dead Time - Swans (Midori Tribute)
I haven't heard any of those other albums you mentioned except Deathconsciousness so I'll check them out thanks.

Yeah their post-punk (White Light from the Mouth of Infinity especially) and experimental rock/post rock stuff are what Id rather hear.

yeah, the cool thing about Mission Control though is that you get a unique overlay of live NASA radio, so in a way, you'll never hear the same song twice. whoever set it up also put on some reverb and echo onto the NASA backtrack, so it adds to the ambiance. it's pretty brilliant. there are also sites that overlay things like police scanners over music, but i found this a lot more interesting.
