This game's soundtrack is a masterpiece, and ties in really well with the overall ocean theme. Nearly everyone hates the actual game though.

I thought it was great, but I might be biased, since I grew up by the beach and love complicated existential dimension hopping shenanigans (Bioshock Infinite now being my favorite game this generation)

This happens to me almost monthly it's pitiful hahaha

I like these tracks the most in Mother 3
MOTHER 3- Volcano! Inferno!

I don't think I could pick a favorite videogame OST, assuming we are discussing *original* soundtracks. So few of the games I play use the kind of music I would normally listen to independently. However, there was one Dreamcast game that was released in 1999 called Roommania#203, for which the fictional pop star Serani Poji was invented. I don't play the game anymore, and honestly don't recall too much about it aside from the soundtrack. Serani Poji has since released 5 CD's, which I like and listen to now and then. Here is a sample track not from the game:

This was of course a few years before Katamari Damacy came out. I'm pretty sure there have been other musical acts originally created exclusively for game content, but I can't name any others at the moment.

So that this post is at least mostly on topic, there were a few games released in the past few years that I thought had fairly memorable music. These are all commercial titles and came out around 2010, so I've at least remembered the music from them for this long:

To prevent musical spoilers (?), all the tracks I listed play towards the beginning of their respective games. I think the composers who scored them are usually behind pretty catchy and memorable content. Coincidentally, of these titles have sequels by now, but I haven't played the new installments long enough to decide if I like the music as much.

As far as western composers go, a lot of people seem to like Jake Kaufman. I can see why, but I find his compositions a bit too kitschy even for my tastes. I sometimes listen to doujin arranges from a few music circles I really like, but usually only if they're really catchy or funny enough to make me laugh out loud internally. Those probably don't belong in this topic though.
