you might not wanna make the lineart so light than the color, or things start to fade away. what you sohould try is colorizing your lineart by locking transparency on the lineart layer and going back after you have colored and paint over your lines with a slightly darker version of the colors beneath it. i like to use a soft brush for this so i can do some blending and ambient stuff. then sometimes i will merge the lines and color and paint over it where line isnt needed anymore

i'll definitely try to mess around with that too but i also realized i forgot to readjust the opacity on the lines.

edit: more messing around with colours

rtil

seems like you enjoy the more earthy colors. watch out for colors being too close to eachother, like the sky and the cliff in the moonlight shot. you'd probably want a little more contrast there, and not so much influence of color from the night ambience

tbh i don't really like the colours i was playing around with that much. it just came out that way. i was just kind of messing with the brush tool which i don't really know that well. my favourite picture that i coloured is the potions one which i did with the marker tool but that took me way too long and way too many layers. i'm getting more used to drawing digitally but painting is like learning to draw all over again for me.

i just need to play around a lot more before i can find a way to paint and get the colours i like. the artist in my sig is pretty close to my ideal painting style but i have no idea how to go about painting like that properly. i love his work but i feel like i'll never be that good. then again a few years ago i thought i would never be able to draw lilith from borderlands. i don't think i have a great eye for painting yet either. i'm kind of a mess when it comes to it and i think i'm just really gonna have to do a lot of trial and error paintings. with critique of course.

also good point about the cliff, i didn't really notice it until i looked back at it.

do you know anything about color theory? warm and cool colors, stuff like that? if not i could probably find something online for you but i really don't know any good places for tutorials and stuff so i'd have to go looking for something unless i demonstrate it myself.

if you want to paint like the person in your sig you need to be more bold with your color choices. dont afraid to start super saturated and work your way down. since photoshop does subtractive blending (colors get muddier as you pile them on), you'll want to be going back to your color picker a lot, trying different brush modes and avoid using the eyedropper too much. a good thing would be to have a layer where you have blobs of color you'd like to refer back to

i get the premise of warm and cool colours but i don't really know how well i'd hold up trying them out. they talked about it in my art class in grade 9 but my art class was kind of a joke so i never really took it seriously. i also remember this pic

i think working super saturated is a better idea 'cause i like really saturated stuff but whatever i would choose on the scale when i was painting last time always ended up looking dimmer when i put it on. i assume it had something to do with my brush settings because i don't really know what all the scales do, like opacity mix and persistence. i work in sai btw and i'm not really sure if that gives me a handicap but i've just grown way too comfortable with all the hotkeys i've made. everytime i try to use photoshop i get scared or frustrated and just jump back into sai. when i try to paint i get a similar feeling though. i've seen some really cool paintings made in sai though so i know it's not just the fact that sai isn't capable of some of the things i want to do, i'm just not really going about it the right way.

going back to the colour picker and avoiding using the eyedrop tool is most likely great advice, because i think that might've been on of the mistakes i made with those. the only frustrating thing i find with sai is that you can't save your brush settings as your own preset as far as i can tell, and it can be annoying because i use the brush tool to paint and sketch.

i'm playing katamari right now but hopefully i'll get around to doing some stuff later or if not tomorrow 'cause i really want to provide more examples so i can get through this super early stage quickly.

it doesnt matter what you work in. it's the artist not the tool that matters. sai has superior color blending to photoshop, it even has a palette window iirc

the eye is driving me insane and it's the only thing i have left but i don't feel like figuring it out right now

btw thanks for the comments guys, i appreciate it.

the only thing i would suggest fixing is her left foot, which although is twisting, looks like a stump. maybe try making the front part of her foot more prominent?

as far as the eye goes, you could do the following

looking at the audience: "i-is this what you want master?"
looking to the left or right makes it look like she's looking for someone
looking down: "wtf am i wearing"

<@reptilicus> am I in backwards land?
<@reptilicus> if i go to the toilet will poop go up into my rectum
