i like lady gaga did she make an album this year?

trent bortknob

yo bluephoenix and rtil i want you guys to check out the song "undertow" by my old band "simple abstract"

http://www.reverbnation.com/simpleabstract

it's got this sort of summery lo-fi california indie sound that i think you might like. it was always my favorite song to play in that band.

rtil

guys' voice kinda weirds me out but it's pretty good

trent bortknob

yeah i get that, it's pretty odd.

lmfao dude

mylo xyloto? are you fucking kidding me? i mean coldplay has a good record or two but that one? quite possibly the lowest point of their career? THEY HAVE A SONG ON THERE THAT IS FEATURING RIHANNA

and rtil already said that crazy for you came out last year

rtil

coldplay was dead to me once x&y came out. man what a crap album

trent bortknob

yeah, i heard that one was shitty. they seem to be paralleling the band muse. they both started out as britrock groups really influenced by radiohead, then they start developing their style a bit and make a decent album or two, and then just spiral down and start making the most obnoxious and egotistical music in the whole world, only to be loved by tons of idiots, which only makes you hate it even more.

i'm a fan of coldplay and have been ever since parachutes, but mylo xyloto is my favorite one so far because it's an album that doesn't SOUND like coldplay, the typical acoustic, slow paced song-of-love feel to it. i really dig the new sound, and it has a fair collection of memorable songs that really staple the album together for me, excluding one (up in flames). however, simply having rhianna featured in a song doesnt break it in any way, in fact, princess of china is one of the best songs on the album, i'd say.

also as a longtime fan of muse i feel i'm obliged to ask what you mean by 'obnoxious and egotistical'

i mean, there's no denying both bands carry over a distinct sound to each album they touch, but its hard to understate your dissatisfaction with someone saying "the music you like SUCKS" without sufficient reason

muse used to be my favorite band. i thought they were awesome. then i grew up.

seriously, muse is such a joke, but especially since the resistance. the resistance is an absolute idiotic mess. the reason i say that matt bellamy is egotistical is because, well, HE IS. he thinks he's a fucking AMAZING guitarist, he thinks he's some AMAZING singer, he thinks he's some AMAZING pianist, he thinks he's some PROFOUND intellectual, but in reality he's none of these things. listen to the lyrics on the resistance, they're all garbage. "the government is bad! let's rebel against the government! conspiracy theories are all true!" but he doesn't even say why the government is bad, the songs lack any depth lyrically. they're all basically "the government controls us or something, down with the government!" then he has some really poorly written love songs that are the most dishonest things ever. and then "DUDE LET'S WRITE AN EPIC SPACE ROCK OPERA SUITE! AND THEN PUT STRINGS AND CALL IT A SYMPHONY!".

if you know anything about classical music, you know that that song is NOT a good symphony. the thing is, the exogenesis thing is probably the best thing on the record, but it's ruined by its pretension and its ego. they really think that song is some powerful shit, but it's so poorly written as far as symphonic standards go. they should have just made a 13 minute long song without referring to it as something that it isn't.

the record sure has a lot to say, but it really does not convey anything. it's purely fictitious. but they make it out to be some awesome record that is supposed to motivate people and send some anti-government message. like they're trying to rally people. the only people who'd find the lyrics on that album inspiring are total idiots.

so that's just the lyrics. the music on most of the albums is at least somewhat interesting for pop music. matt bellamy can play piano pretty well, but all he really does is arpeggios like he's trying to sound like some piano god. in their earlier stuff, they carried more of a sense of modesty about them. they just played loud, catchy rock music that is heavily inspired by radiohead, nirvana and rage against the machine. now they take themselves super seriously, and have been on that path since absolution.

matt bellamy is not a bad vocalist, but he's not super great either. he's pretty good. his guitar playing is pretty solid. he is not a guitar master like the parts he plays would suggest he is. not that his parts are particularly difficult, he just plays them like they are.

dominic has always been a mediocre drummer and his parts are rarely interesting.

chris is a pretty solid bass player and a nice guy, i don't really have any qualms with what he does.

for reals though, even their old shit which was kinda cool has never been groundbreaking, or even really all that interesting. sure, it's better than lil wayne, but it's really not great in the grand scheme of things. there is so much more music that has more legitimate emotion in it

rtil

^ that right there is why i usually try my best to avoid learning about members of a band that i like, because if i find out they're a huge douche or something it kinda ruins the music for me

trent bortknob

that's a good idea actually. i've had that happened to me with other bands. no more
