some of the music they promote is actually really good (The Jesus Lizard, Wilco, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., etc.) and some of the singles they have uploaded on their site are cool too. hell their best of lists are a good way of finding some older music as well

then again they tend to be biased towards a lot of artists (Radiohead worship, negative bias towards Mike Patton, Pearl Jam, and The Mars Volta) and can be really REALLY arrogant a good percentage of the time. plus they can be totally full of shit as well (calling Britney Spears' Toxic one of the best singles of the 2000's, thinking disco didn't suck ass, obsessing over obscurities et al)

really they're just another music magazine that tends to be stupid and insightful simultaneously

i want to start listening to frank zappa but i am intimidated by artists who have extensive discographies

could someone (ant) tell me what some good albums are to start with

he's done a lot of different stuff

i recommend "apostrophe" (weird rock), "the grand wazzoo" (weird jazz), and we're only in it for the money (funniest album ever)
