Looking back through some of my old messages on Newgrounds, I'm shocked at some of the stuff I had just completely forgot about. There was a guy who wanted to use Fred the Beard for a huge marketing campaign for Target that I think was supposed to tie in to shaving products. I looked up his name today and judging from his linkedin account he seems pretty legit. He had signed up Newgrounds the same day he sent me the message and doesn't seem to have done anything since.

It never ended up working out because I told him the music was created by someone else who had just recently died of a brain tumor. Because of this I felt weird about this video that I had just made on a whim in one weekend being used for advertising. I don't know if he ever tried to get in contact with the musician's family after that but I never heard from him again. Now I have to wonder how things would have worked out differently if he was alive.

This one is from a woman who convinced the webmaster of albinoblacksheep.com that she was interested in a small documentary about web animators. Months later it turned out she was a scam artist.

You are one of a few possible animators who we would like to interview in front of a camera crew. If you are interested, we would need the following as soon as possible:

2. Contact information (phone, up-to-date e-mail, website, etc).

3. A short biography about yourself, including your age, why you love creating animation, and your involvement with Albino Blacksheep.

4. An image that represents your animations such as an animation screen shot, detailed drawing and/or collage.

Optional: Video clip of yourself, or something you would like to have for the documentary's proposal.

As we will be submitting this information to the grant committee, we would also need written authorization allowing us to include you in our project. The grant amount we receive will determine the financial compensation for your time.

Remembering these old messages really makes me realize how naive I was back then. Something like this now would get my bullshit radar beeping like crazy. But back then I was telling my family how cool it was gonna be that I was gonna be in a documentary...

I had a brief phase a long time ago when I was really good at speedrunning Banjo Kazooie.

I also just discovered that Mario 64 speedrun a recently, and it's easily the most impressive thing I've ever seen done in a video game.

Dude mine too... no joke.    I don't usually cry at movies but that one gets me every time. Maybe it's because it's so existential and makes real life seem more real. Most things that people cry at in movies I just find cheesy.

Speaking of the guy who directed that movie, he made another movie recently with an amazing concept called "In Time." It had Justin Timberlake and they lived in a world where time was currency and all the richest people were practically immortal because of all the years they had. It was actually a pretty bad movie though, I just thought the concept was cool.

I knew that one when I was 6 years old!

According to the Meyer's Briggs test I'm INFJ

My I (introversion) is only moderate but my N (intuition) is pretty much at the most extreme end of the scale. I'm pretty much right in the middle on T-F so I could swing as a INTJ. I only vaguely understand what the other letters besides Introversion-Extroversion mean though.

I consider myself a bit of both. I really like people but can deal with being alone for long periods of time and even enjoy it.

It was a comic book used by Mandark. I think it was called Mister Misery and Dangerous Duck. It was one of the weird later episodes.

Yeah, people are immediately downvoting anything that gets to the top like using a blue shell in Mario Kart. Mine immediately sunk because it doesn't have many views and can't withstand much attack. I seriously doubt there's much voting going on besides people giving 5's to themselves and their friends and 1s to everyone else. I gotta figure out how to get more people to see it.

I don't wanna jinx it but as of right now it's in 6th place. 

How long did that take? It's amazing that it was animated with paper! even if you didn't do the color traditionally that must have taken forever!

I was working on the roughs on and off during Aug-September, and then pretty much worked on it straight through the last month or so and not much else.

I was recently to animate this Doritos ad, which has a chance to be in the Superbowl, so vote 5 stars on it so that it has as much of a chance as possible! I did all the animation on paper and scanned it in and colored each frame in Photoshop... a process I'm not likely to try again on my own as it took about 5 times as long as just doing it in flash. Another guy did the backgrounds, and the music is a contest provided track... we had a cool original one made but they wouldn't let us use it. Other than that I'm pretty happy with how it came out! It was a hell of a lot of work. It's also probably the only animated entry in the bunch.

Bill Plympton is great. Making a living off just doing your own films is pretty bad ass, though not easy I'm sure. He visited my school once so I got to meet him. I was living in the suburbs at the time and I only found out he was going to be there that same day so I had to rush out and just barely got the train to get there in time, haha.

I also really like John K and Brad Bird, not just because I love their work, (which I do,) but because they're so intense about animation. Just listening to them talk gets be fired up. They also both really hate bureaucracy and the executive process which I already have experienced a lot of so I find therapeutic. A couple of my old classmates are working for John K now, and they say he's really cool and not a dick at all like some people say. I hope I get to meet them both before they get super old.

In terms of just still art, I see great stuff all the time but I don't pay attention to who the artist is very often. I probably should.

i haven't bought it either.. i have an xbox but not xbla. my friend gave me his 360 cuz he never used it but it just sits around in my apt. but it is coming out on steam though.

is the doritos thing through the same company you did the cereal commercial stuff for?

Nope it's a completely different guy. That place I did the cereal stuff for is really hard to get work from now because they changed a lot of their stuff to CG, so they're overstaffed with 2D animators.

Haha, that's okay, you probably wouldn't enjoy it that much. A lot of my friends were excited to see it but I had to let them know that the target audience is pretty much 10 year old girls. It was fun to work on though.

Since I graduated over 2 years ago I've been working on a ton of different things but none of it has been as fun or rewarding as when I could just do whatever I wanted. (But that's life I guess.) I only just recently moved out of the house and got an aparment in Chicago. Lately I've been working on a weird animation for Doritos and with a start-up company that makes e-learning courses. This year has been really rough so far but I feel like now everything is coming to fruitition. Maybe soon I'll have the time and money to work on my own projects again.

I did know you worked on Skullgirls! It looks amazing and I would have bought it just for the art, but sadly I don't have an X-Box. 

I haven't been here since the days of trolling Newgrounds with weird collabs. What's goin on folks? Are most of you still animators? Anyone trying to make it professionally now?
