That's kind of why they're drip-feeding new content constantly, to stave that off as long as possible and keep things fresh.

I have it, it's fun and I don't regret buying it, but at the moment I'm really absorbed in other things (like 999).

Okay so I've been playing this game a bit more on my own Wii U rather than just at friends places.

My main gripes are:

• I wish there was a way to switch out the multiplayer music (mostly annoying/obnoxious noise rock) for the dancey singleplayer stuff, which I really like.
• Of course I wish there were more game modes, like deathmatch, etc. and more maps in rotation at a time (maybe there are plans to implement this but I'm not following the development).
• Game feels tailor-made for filthy casuals who actually care about cosmetic character customization, which imo is the most unethical way to keep people playing your game. At least there's no microtransactional bullshit. That said, because the wardrobe is a selling point, I wish the perks were chosen by the player, or at least built-in. The randomization is lame.
• It's tacky as fuck in almost every sense of the word and gives me a headache. This isn't really much of a problem, but these are the same reasons I can't browse tumblr, a demographic this game feels designed in part to appeal to.

I like pretty much everything else though¹. It's definitely way more fun than Super Smash Bores, which has to be the most overrated series in existence (unless you have friends or something idk).

So I just finished the singleplayer (slowpoke I know, but I did just start a few days ago, and some of those scrolls were a bitch to find). I definitely have a much fuller appreciation for the game, almost to the point I think everyone should play the singleplayer before the multiplayer (hearing the credits music alone for the first time is almost worth the full retail price). The game as a whole is a lot smarter/funnier than most people who haven't read all the scrolls could possibly give it credit for (unless 4chan/tumblr spilled the ink for them idk), certainly more than Undertale, or at the very least subtler (see also: a knee to the crotch). I can confidently say it's the most artistically adept thing Nintendo EAD has developed since Mario Galaxy (not that it has much to compete with besides Skyward Sword (really I'm just saying Skyward Sword sucks)).

Here are the things I liked most about it:

• You had to piece together the story from the seacret scrolls in non-linear fashion.
• The singleplayer campaign basically has you enacting a hilarious/cute genocide (but without any moral pandering (i.e. it didn't insult your intellect)).
• The game is post-apocalyptic, with cephelopods having become the dominate species after humans rekt themselves (so basically it's more realistic than your average western game).
• I literally did not get that last part until I found the scroll with the human skeleton and the notes speculating as to what kind of creature it could be because I am stupid.
• Seriously I don't know I could have been so squidiotic (well, I do, but that's beside the point). Whenever someone openly wonders as to what the next animal to evolve into a neotenic land-dweller could be, the answer is always "squids."
• So yeah, it was like a puzzle or something, more than the sum of its parts, which I always find more stimulating than a story tube affixed to every orifice. All <10 hour games should do this. No. Shut up. All of them.
• The credits made me cum rainbow-colored splooge (literally, that's how you uncover the names).
• You've probably read all this praise elsewhere but now you can here too.
• You're a kid now you're a squid now etc.

I appreciate puns, which are the highest form of wit and unfortunately suffer from people drawing too much emphasis to the fact that they're making a pun whenever they do. I don't appreciate portmanteaux, and at that I particularly dislike sticking 'tastic' onto the end of another word, and at that I particularly dislike it when people claim that sticking 'tastic' onto the end of another word is a pun.

Initially, I was pleasantly surprised by this game's speedy matchmaking. This was quickly offset by the fact that I invariably disconnect from every online Splatoon game I try to join, usually within 10 seconds. If only there were an option to opt into matching only with more local players — I would happily enough go and make some tea whilst waiting ~10 minutes to find a match that I can actually play.
It would appear as though I'm destined to be an unfresh scrublord forever, or at least for now.
