terran is the least played in plat+ now

gay maps

rtil

most of the maps aren't so bad for terran, i'd say the drops in terran play have more to do with all the terran nerfs and the recent infestor buff

Sinitron

'buff' pffft dontcha mean 'hey we took psistorm away from protoss and gave it to zerg also you can't run away'

not that buffing infestors is such a bad thing in itself but it was kind of a weird way to go about it

i also doubt it has anything to do with zerg itself but the influx of zerg/macro-favored maps

and the fact that they are all fucking immensely massive continents now

* protoss can't get bumrushed as easily, so they can macro up their deathballs
* zerg can't get bumrushed as easily, so they can FE every game
* terran lost the majority of map features that favored them in the first place (cliff placement, islands, etc)

also the units that could truly abuse these features (tanks and reapers) were both nerfed very heavily early on, with reapers being near extinct now since they suck and can only work on very specific maps, and tanks were always GAY anyway since they have to remain stationary and have an obnoxious asshole faggot driver

terran is strongest early game, and weakest later on, which is why big maps are bad for terran

MMM with ghosts and vikings is the most mobile terran can get, and thus pretty much the only viable option on big maps - but MM sucks lategame and gets stomped by forcefield/colossus/templar or infestor/baneling, which forces non-stop harass to have even the slightest chance of staying competetive against worthwhile players

it also requires assloads of micro to effectively use ghosts in conjunction with MMM since you already have to account for medivacs in seperate control groups and focus-firing down shit in addition to making sure the vikings are not pissing around

in other words, fuck high-level play, i want to make fucking thors with cool decals on them and not

also char brood is a pretty alright decal i like it more than mar sara or hybrids

claw brood is still the best though

psi storm does 80 damage while fungal does something like 36 (46 to armored). the damage is guaranteed because of the lock-down, though, so that's something to consider. i like the new fungal and the dps really helps in combat situations which are very fast paced. the bonus armor damage also makes fungal useful vs protoss and terran mech. the infestor is still incredibly fragile because it didn't get an HP boost, so i think it was a fair trade. if they had kept the missile cast in everyone would simply learn how to dodge it (they already were in PTR). we only have one true caster and before the patch it was kind of a joke to invest in bar zvz.

i still don't think the map pool is not so bad for terran. let's look at the maps -

scrap station. breaking down the rocks leads to an easy path to the opponent and is a nice choke for terran to seige up. high ground leading to the 2nd on the main path is a good choke which can be walled off and tanks on the high ground. short air rush distance for banshees, and an island expansion (always terran friendly).

xel'naga caverns. probably the most balanced map i think everyone can agree on this.

delta quadrant. most people have this map checked off. i hate it. any good P or T will cut off the impossible to defend wide open early natural. takes forever for creep to get there.

shattered temple. easy 3rd for any race. close positions is almost auto-win for terran on 2 rax.

slag pits. uh.... i have this map checked off. never played a terran on it. i'd probably 1-base all-in every terran on this map. not a macro map at all. rush distances shorter than steppes.

backwater gulch. shitty, non-macro map that encourages rush play. horrible natural.

typhon. definitely a macro map. plenty of chokes and high ground for terran to abuse. just dont' engage in the middle.

shakuras. side positions for terran is excellent for 2 rax/bunker rush. really hard for z to defend.

tal'darim. also a macro map, but side positions is great for terran. marine/tank is really good on this map and it's easy to keep a zerg contained to their 2nd and 3rd, and the 3rd has rocks on it.

it shouldn't be easy to kill zerg so effortlessly at the beginning of a game when they FE vs protoss or terran because zerg is designed to FE, they have to be a base ahead to survive. setting up their natural should be possible. offensive bunkering and 2 rax are still viable play, but they should not be game enders. that's almost effortless play from a terran killing a zerg who is doing everything they can to try and stop it. forcing 1-base all-in play is not something every player is interested in, which is why most zergs have slag, backwater and delta checked off.

i've played terrans in long macro games in diamond and many of them are quite capable of staying competitive in the late stages of a game. i think what separates them from the ones who think late game terran is weak is that they keep building production facilities, and by the end they'll have something like 15-20 rax, 5-6 factories and starports, being able to reinforce a lot quicker than the ones who forgot to keep building them.

Sinitron

fungal never was supposed to do a lot of damage though, it holds stuff in place for something else to kill it off or to just delay it from getting too close, like i said it was a weird buff to the infestor which doesn't feel right at all

anyway 'excellent for 2rax' is a bad criteria for any map, but it doesn't matter since there are so many bad and ugly maps

shattered is not easy for anyone, it is zerg-favored because it's so open speedling runbys are easy especially vs protoss

it's also ugly, just like slag, bwg and tal'darim

it's monstrous that they were too lazy to make their own maps decent and instead added a third party map which is just as ugly

but hey what do i care, 1v1 is for farming portraits and nothing else, team games are where it's at

rtil

using it to hold things in place was how people used it in the past because that's all it was good for

now it has the added benefit of high dps, which makes it a more effective spell

if you're still using it just to hold things in place, you're using it incorrectly

the infestor now plays a crucial role in every matchup, and i think that's important

and i'm not saying 2 rax is good criteria for a map. my point was that terrans can still 2 rax on almost every map provided the conditions are correct

and shattered is not zerg favored unless the zerg spawned cross or top/down. that being said it's really the only "zerg favored" map

PEOPLE STILL PLAY THIS SHITTY GAME

have you played it?

Quote from: rtilusing it to hold things in place was how people used it in the past because that's all it was good for

It was all it was intended to do. Psistorm has high DPS, EMP removes a certain amount of energy, and fungal keeps stuff in place for banelings or whatever else. Now it overlaps with psistom, except it is better since you can't run away from it.
