Quote from: notoriousugh rtil needs to learn how to accept criticism

i wrote a review on the flash on newgrounds for the reasons that i didn't entirely like it and he responded 'i dont care'

fucka you rtil
i'm entirely open to criticism that poses any relevance to me
"you can do better" is kind of a slap in the face, i spent months trying to do the best animation i possibly could, and that's mostly what the cartoon is there for. i don't see why it needs to be full of intricate, well scripted dialog. it wasn't even intended for it. i'm an animator, not a writer, at least yet
i'm currently learning how to do creative writing and apply it to a series type story, and i hope that i can put it into successful dialog for the next episode, which will be completely fueled by a character's narration. i sincerely hope that you will not be disappointed by the next episode. it is just discouraging to see friends and other animators i know brush off a major project of mine with a few unthoughtful words. i'm sure you would be as well if you spent a very long time on something like that

no, a few unthoughtful words would be 'i dont care'. My review had a lot of thought put into it. And yes, you can do better I know you can, gum was excellent and original, this was a little too anime cliche. And no, I haven't brushed it off. I still do watch it finding something new each time I watch it, and it is obvious a lot of effort was put into it, I couldn't imagine doing something like that myself.

"you can do better" should not be a slap in the face but rather a sign that your fans as well as other animators know you can come even closer to perfection than that. It was a well made animation, though I believe i've already stated that a few times, though maybe i should state it again since you only seem to focus on the negative parts of what i have to say about the animation.

rtil

i was really upset that day i was going through reviews so i apologize for replying to your review that way. but then on my userpage you left even another review, and you said the animation was nice, but you disappointed because it was too short, the music wasn't good and the dialogue was horrid. that sounds like 3 negatives and a positive, which to me translates as "i didn't like it". i'm not saying you have to like it or anything, that's fine if you don't.

the next episode is going to be a lot different. it is a narration by one of the characters giving a sort of prologue to everything that's going on in freetown, with more slow paced animation and visuals. if you think that freetown is too cliche or 'anime', which i don't think is my style at all, perhaps the next one will change your mind. but i don't understand why this one had to have excellent dialogue when there were only 3 lines, and it's not like i made the music. i just wanted people to enjoy it for what it was. the main feature was the animation, not the music or the words. and sorry if it was short, but 3 minutes of fbf @ 24fps is over 4,000 frames. with my goal for this one being pretty much non-stop animation, you have to understand that this takes a very, very long time . and chances are you probably would have been even more disappointed had it taken even longer. it was originally only going to be 80 seconds long, and i pushed it to 3 minutes because i thought it was too short.

it's just a feeling of like i can't please people with even my best work, and their standards are too high. i'll try to be a better writer and get a better voice actor for the next episode.

maybe you should run your script by a few people

rtil

anigentleman

maybe to avoid people giving you shit about the writing

i dont know ive given swain and other people advice with their scripts

passing it around usually helps people make their movie more likable

rtil

you asked the swain for advice on scriptwriting? hahahahahaha

in any case i won't be passing around my script to a bunch of people for suggestions on what will make it more 'likeable'
if the writing is poor so be it but it's my story and i'm not gonna let people mess with it

for sure, that would like writing a book but then letting people change it cause they don't like parts of it.

Wait isn't that what an editor does?

Dagolith

i think the editor only changes parts that aren't correct grammer and spelling. but i might be wrong.
