I've tried that and it doesn't work for me.  Its never really a problem anyway, it rarely happens and if it does I just restart steam.

the stuttering issue is a huge one. it was happening to me when i first got the game so i went to the steam forums looking for answers. there are hundreds of threads about it and no real one-fix answer. for me, i had to turn anti-aliasing off. for others, it was drivers. for some it was a wireless latency issue. it could be a million things. i think it has something to do with the way the source engine works.
