no i completely agree.

You could maybe move it a little in every scene, so it looks like a new overlay. Or flip/rotate it whenever the camera cuts to a new scene.

i kinda liked the texture in the beginning during the musical introduction, but after that i thought it was kinda distracting. idk

actually I have been thinking what to do about that overlay too.

Im experimenting a few ways to keep the overlay in the video without it being too repetitive or dragging too much attention. I want to keep it, I think it simply makes it more apealling.

(I had never tought of using a diferent texture. it could probably work....)

emanhattan

Decided to turn this into some sort of "production thread" where I show very little progress like every month.
I made this like 2 days ago I think. rtil gave me a few tips to make it look better.

i still think the timing is too even. but you're probably tired of working on it now

emanhattan

well its not that im TIRED i mean I could probably work it out more (as well as a lot of the other animations in the movie)  but in this moment what I really want is to just work on the rest of the movie the best i can because im tired of having this fla. accumulating dust in my comp for over a year now.

still im curious. what do you mean by "even" timing? im pretty sure ive heard it many times but i probably havent put it to practice the way It should be done.

lenko

what rtil means is everything is happening at the same speed. whilst the movement is smooth and looks good on surface, it isnt that believable due to how fast its happening. i think you need more of a pause before he hits the button to show the audience that he notices it and decides to press it, instead of appearing straightaway and just pressing a random button

i also think the button should go further down, it looks like he's pressing it hard and fast rather than delicately so it'd make sense to travel down more. that way you'll also get more 'bounce'

oh yeah i think there should be more of an 'ease' when he first raises his hand up. a slow raise, to an almost complete stop, and then a crash down on the button

just to clarify, I really do believe it would be better to make him spend more time realizing there is a button and more time for him to press it/release his hand/etc. I know, because when I sketched that specific part, it did take more time, at least in my mind. made more sense.

but theres a small problem, part of the reason it is so fast in here is because im kinda running out of seconds to tell the story. i didnt storyboard this when I started it like a year ago (I foolishly tought "oh well who needs storyboards anyway")

so yeah in that aspect ive kinda cornered myself into being forced to do things way too fast, not that it justifies bad animation.

i will think about a way of making it less evident/wrong

lenko

ok i think i figured out something that'll help you a lot and maybe with a minimal amount of time. its my main 'problem' with the animation anyways

i think he should do the cheeky look and THEN press the button. the main reason its looking weird to me is because he does both at the same time and with the same amount of frames before both animations end pretty much

other than that your fbf is very consistent so nice job

rtil

honestly if i were you eman i would go back to doing roughs on the scene and draw the robot one 1 layer so you can really focus on fbf and not have to worry about all his parts. you could use a mask to hide his bottom underneath that table. sometimes when you mess with an animated segment too much - especially if it's in parts - it just starts to get messy. he is a a relatively simple character, and you could apply everything you've learned since then at the early process.

The Good Ole Ant

i think you should tone down the overlay because it's too obnoxiously visible

i was just gonna suggest push then cheeky look

but yeah do something other than have them simultaneous
