this summer i'll be adding a big section of the site for Flash help.
poll - do you think it would be better to have this as a FAQ or a WIKI?

FAQ
advantages: more organized, easier to sort through
disadvantages: editable only to administrator

WIKI
advantages: editable by anyone/members, collective knowledgebase
disadvantages: less organized, vandalism, false information, harder to mantain

please vote and express your opinion. this is important.

my vote (for now) goes to the FAQ, as a wiki would be hard to manage on my own and i don't know anyone who would be commited to helping.

....Honestly I thought that said FAG not faq

Anyway I like the idea of a wiki as most people apart of this community have something to contribute. Whether it be flash or art suggestions.

You should have a couple people kinda moderate important wiki articles to keep em from bein misleading and such.

Wade is not gay, read his profile! It's sad that you would use sexual orientation as a joke, shows that you have no real sense of humor.

Dagolith

mabey it should be wiki based, but all edits have to pass inspection by..... probably you. so you just go ahead and give the green light to change whatever after making sure it's right.

moderating EVERY edit is kind of a nightmare, and pointless since wiki can revert to any previous version of the page. but i see where you are coming from.

you could assign moderators, but then again it's dangerous to even mention that, because then they'll be some big stupid flame war about who gets to be a moderator. still; it's something to think about.

I'll vote for Wiki because I can tell there a good number of people who'd want to contribute as much as they can , and it seems to me that people like a user based community. Of course there will vandalism, and if it does become a problem you could maybe install a bot or something.

cleaning bots and moderators will be part of it, there's no way i'd do it on my own. i'm leaning towards wiki now, since i think it'd be great to have a collective of information from lots of people, instead of just myself. plus, no one has ever done it before for flash.

trent bortknob

well if you're gonna have a nmoderator for a flash thing you should pick people that actually DO FLASH and are good at it

I think I'm pretty good at flash,,, :/

rtil

of course i'll be picking people who are knowledgable about flash so that they know which edits are the right ones to make .

you can be one ok

i've decided on the wiki. now the issue is, wikitext and templates for infoboxes and whatnot . i am totally new to these things, and I can't do it alone. any of you knowledgable on wiki formatting?

CaseyJamesx

Wiki's are amazing.

It would allow alot more information to be amassed with better tutorials.

ya he right, that wiki is gonna get messed to shit, also your way too lenient of an admin, so if someone decides to fuck everything up as a joke, then you probably wont do anything, aside from fix it and tell them to stop.

Except for roast dogg, but that was because he was new, and intolerable.

what makes me too lenient?

i'm only lenient with taylor because he is swell and in all reality this is just a forum and i don't use a ban unless someone truly shows they don't want to be here (like roast dogg)
however with the wiki things will be a little bit different and i won't be tolerating abuse of it no matter who it is.

overviewing the topics i'd want to cover in a project like this i realize that i won't be able to do it myself. i've decided on the wiki. it is more flexible and people will be willing to help out as it will be a community project for the community to work on.

i've installed the software and begun designing templates and projects. once the skeleton of it is ready to go, i will introduce the feature to you guys first to tell me what you think. and then i'll make journals on sheezy and deviant with a catchy title so that people will read it and go check it out.

if anyone thinks this is a bad idea, instead of trying to change my mind they can suggest ways to improve it once it is ready.
the main page of it will be extremely accessible, and will cater to what people will usually be coming there for - FAQ's.

Only go with Wiki, if you can find competent moderators.  Seeing as I have no clue about flash, I've been hit for six on that one... as far as cricket terms go.  Assign at least 2 mods in any case.  3 if it becomes popular.  Anything less is just asking for trouble you don't need.  Try to find mods that aren't in the same time zone too.  Though I doubt that's really necessary, unless if you get a lot of incoming stuff throughout the day when you're offline.

But yeah, I reckon you're capable of it.  Shouldn't prove to be much trouble at all.

rtil

to start i'll be getting all the anti-spam wiki features i can find, and then when the project begins to appoint people who are experienced and, yes, competent.

thankfully wiki logs every IP that anonymously edits so i can pinpoint, revert and prevent vandalism/spam from those IP's quite quickly.

trent bortknob

ooo and I'll get to ban a bunch a people that act up oooo boy

it';s like

a dream come true
