all the people who are complaining about the "oh no earth is wrecked and humans did it whoops" element of the movie (which is barely a subplot and takes up less than a minute of the films story overall I'd wager), are just pussies.

they think this film is dark? does noone remember ferngully or the cartoon movies of the 80's and 90's? when blood could be shown? when the "take care of earth" message was displayed all over commercials and tv?

wall-e isnt even a drop in the lake at this kind of thing

i cant wait to watch political pundits on CNN discuss this movie and how its evil and how the people who made it are traitors to america and love the french and all the other stupid bullshit the people in suits in this country shriek about now.
like when they claimed that "Happy Feet teaches children that penguins are homosexual"

rtil

Quote"Happy Feet teaches children that penguins are homosexual"
the media came up with that? wait, i shouldn't be surprised.

yeah, i could see someone like bill o'reilly accusing a CGI robot of being left-wing liberal propaganda

i wish people could just see it for what it is

a charming movie for people of all ages with a little reminder to us all to take care of what was given to us

ZekeySpaceyLizard

yes exactly

i thought it was surprisingly romantic as well

normally when romance is crammed into a animated movie it feels forced (Cars kinda did this), but since the relationship between the two robots is the focus, it feels natural and its so cute to watch.

but people will focus on the overweight background characters instead

and that makes me sad

:(

The ads for Wall-E most likely don't do this film justice. Judging by this thread, this film sounds a lot better than the ads make the movie out to be.

Rina-chan

I haven't gotten a chance to see it yet [or anyone to go see it with] but I definitely want to. It looks so cute

I agree, the romance is really cute. I almost cried when wall-e lost his emotions

Quote from: rtilyeah it was really good, imo the best pixar film ever made. its G rating and limited dialogue proves that cartoons aren't just for kids and acting always triumphs over loaded scripts

Yeah, the thing about Pixar, and this movie in particular, is that it appeals to everyone. There was every age of person in the movie theater with me.

Also, WALL*E was WAY better than Finding Nemo in my opinion, both directed and stuff by Andrew Stanton. The Worst Pixar Films I think are Cars, A Bugs Life, and Finding Nemo. The Best ones in my opinion are The Incredibles, WALL*E, and Ratatouille, as of now. My opinion changes often though.

Also, what did you guys think of the short film? I really liked it, it reminded me of those old Chuck Jones, Looney Tunes cartoons with Bugs and Daffy, or the Roadrunner and Coyote. I think the best short though is One Man Band.

The Wall*E podcast has some cool behind the scenes stuff on iTunes, I recommend it even though it's only like, 8 minutes worth of content, it's still worth checking out.

The amount of detail in WALL*E was really amazing, and the way that they were able to put so much emotion into two robots without those signature Pixar eyes, or even real faces was pretty great.

I also thought that the idea of making everyone really fat and stupid in the distant future was hilarious. From the looks of it, that's where we're going.

Anyway, WALL*E was without a doubt the best movie I have seen in theaters since Ratatouille, and if you haven't seen it, you must.

SIDE NOTE: Did you guys all see that trailer for that new Disney movie about the Chihuahuas? Disney should be ashamed of themselves. It made me really disappointed in America. Is this the kind of movie that appeals to us? I was really happy when everyone in the theater started booing at the trailer.

Also, was anyone else disappointed when there was no trailer for Pixar's next movie, "Up"?

white acid

people were booing for the chihuahuas at my theater too

rtil

i think it's too early for pixar to be showing trailers of its new movie already.

nobody booed at the chihuahua stuff, in fact there were a few giggles, but it made me sick to my stomach watching it. i mean is that the best movie the execs can come up with? beverly hills chihuahua? out of ALL the movies in their vault, they picked that. they must have been drunk or someone lost a bet or something.

the short film was pretty good, and i like that they're continuing the old theater tradition of showing their own "looney tune" before a film, instead of things like "behind the scenez on shrek 3 teh game!!!"

i haven't seen ratatouille and i refuse to see cars, but out of the pixar films that i have seen i do think wall-e is by far their best

I can't tell you how hard I facepalmed when the trailers for Madacascar 2 and Space Chimps came up.

And then I facepalmed even HARDER when that damn Little Mermaid direct to DVD trailer came up (I thought Lassiter axed that division)

@Rich, yes, the bunny was more like what you'd see out of a Jones cartoon, but the wild action and the crazy takes are something more like out of a Bob Clampett or a Tex Avery cartoon, in my opinion (I don't think Jones would ever let anything that out of control).

Is it me or does the magician look sort of like Walt Disney?

psi43

Looks kinda like that robot from super smash bros

Their next movie will be out in about a year though, and it's been in production for a WHILE. I figured they would have done something worth showing off by now.

I highly recommend you see Ratatouille sometime, it's great. It doesn't have the same kind of mass appeal as WALL-E, but any fan of animation will really enjoy it.

Each pixar film seems like a vast improvement over the previous technically, and WALL-E was no exception.

Also, did anyone else notice the similarity between WALL-E and Lenny (LENN-E) the walking binoculars from Toy Story?

sadly, ALOT of people at my theater were LAUGHING at the trailer for Beverly Hills Chihuahua

it made me :C

edit:

and yeah rtil you should see ratatouille
its not as funny as wall-e but its pretty damn great

rtil

i suppose i will see ratatouille then
i noticed no one is recommending cars to me haha

i saw the trailer for space chimps and madagascar 2.. space chimps' production values are so below pixar's that once anyone sees wall-e they will not be impressed by that . even the title sounds stupid. madagascar 2 has some nice stylization and cartoony animation to it, but the characters annoy the crap out of me. and lmao @ the little mermaid 2 or whatever

there was also some other trailer for a 3d kids film about some creepy mouse. it looked stupid

R. Wappin

As much as I loved Wall-E, Ratatouille is still my fav.

Also it seemed like me and the animation majors I went with were the only people not laughing at the trailers. (Well, I laughed AT them.) The only one that looked halfway decent was Bolt. That one could go either way... I'm giving it a chance.

Thor

Ratatouille and Horton convinced me that 3D animation can do everything that 2D can, in terms of wild takes and squash and stretch and acting (is it as CHARMING though?). IT also makes me pretty darn hungry every time I watch it (they really did a fantastic job with the food in it)

Cars is good, but probably the worst of Pixar's films in terms of animation and special effects, but it's also the most extensively researched and honest cartoon they've ever released.

As far as 3D movies go, Wall-E is my current favorite purely on the reason because it's such a DARING film that breaks from the traditional 3D mold. None of the other studios would have the courage to release a film with such little dialogue in the first third of the movie, let alone protagonists that barely talk at all.

also my WallE watch doesn't fit my arm :[

ZekeySpaceyLizard

yeah about the food in ratatouille

the meal ratatouille itself...its like....slices of yellow pepper, tomato, and pepperoni all baked together?

i dunno

it did look tasty though
