my dad's cousin said that the film "o brother where art though" would musically change my life

i just watched the movie and i have no idea what he was talking about

um well i think what he was implying was

going into the movie you have this preconceived notion of what musicals are like, as well as what old timey music and country music are like

the movie sort of shatters that by hand picking the best folk songs to use from the 1930s and covering them all really fuckin well. i never would have thought that id enjoy bluegrass or blues music until i saw that film, so it has changed my musical taste for sure. plus it has that great offbeat coen brothers feel and the same beautiful roger deakins cinematography that all their other movies have, which is what keeps it from getting overly staged and retarded like other modern musicals (moulin rouge, dreamgirls)

the first part about religion is really fucking well made and i suggest everyone to watch it. The 9/11 part of the movie was kinda ok, but it's all just stuff that had been on the news or the internet, so it's not really too much new stuff. Then the part "the man behind the curtain" was great as well. Very nice explanation why money will always result in debt and stuff like that. Also a not-so-bright outlook on a maybe-future.

ok so i finally got around to watching the wrestler the other day, and that kinda changed my perspective on people, life.. etc !!!

throughout the whole film there's that sort of odd overlying redundancy and pointlessness to randy's life in general. it's all so bleak, but then you get those little moments that just light it up, make it memorable. this film made me flip from thinking "life is bleak and pointless" to "life is good" sort of notion. then switch back. and again. repeat. there's something so devastatingly normal and ordinary about being alive. yet there's always those little flickers of true livelihood. not sure how to explain it.

also now i look at people differently i guess. before i just sorta kept to myself and didn't think much of strangers. but now whenever i see someone that looks like they've washed up from the 80s i imagine they're a semi-retired wrestler

i was never a wrestling fan and usually thought of wrestling fans as idiots but that movie changed my mind. even though people say its fake its not, the hits are real, its just loosely staged. the amount of physical abuse that they have to endure is grueling

and i agree about the monotony of his everyday life. like the scenes in the market, hes trying to make the most of the job and be polite to people but he just doesnt fit in there, and as soon as the guy spots him as a wrestler the only thing he can do is violently hurt himself, just like he does in the ring

All the talking and hating is fake. Back stage when the cameras aren't around, they're all friendly and nice. Wrestling is still fun for me to watch when I'm bored, but when they start talking shit I just tune out.

idk what movies have changed my life. i think reading/seeing plays has always had way more of an impact on me.
i think the play that has most changed my life was Lost in Yonkers. when i was in 11th grade my highschool put on that show, and i played the roll of bella. i connected so much with that character, and it made me realize that i wanted to be an actress
