Hilary and Huckabee making the list doesn't surprise me. What did surprise me was that both Giuliani and Obama made the list. I think I might vote for Edwards. Sure, I don't want him as our president but at least he's not as bad as Hilary and Obama.

that isn't just based off of this list, right?

Of course it isn't based off of that list. Out of the three candidates, I was already leaning towards Edwards. This list just makes Hilary and Obama look worse.

It surprised you that Giuliani was on the list? Hah. You need to know, all NY politicians are corrupt. Don't ever trust one.

Since you're stuck voting democrat, I would avoid voting at all. Edwards is basically a worse version of Hillary Clinton.

Edwards is worse than Hilary? Goddammit. Can you explain how Edwards is worse than Hilary? Even though voting for Gravel is a wasted vote, I'd rather vote for him than to not vote at all. I seriously hate the direction the Democratic primaries went. You know the Democratic primaries went to shit when a very liberal person, such as myself, would rather vote for the most conservative Republican running for president than to vote for any of the Democratic front runners. If I could vote for Ron Paul, I seriously would. I like the idea of political parties but I hate how they practically design them to separate the country

madflashter

i would say that edwards is slightly less worse than hillary... i'm not really excited about any presidential candidates.. not one of them seems to have the exact set of policies and motivations that i think the next president needs. for now, i too am leaning toward ron paul...

minus the corruption, edwards is even more socially and economically retarded than hillary. for example, hillary wants to freeze mortgage rates for 5 years. edwards wants to freeze mortgage rates for 7 years. take everything hillary is going to do, and multiply it, and you have john edwards. and i'm sure he'll cave in to special interests in no time as well.

and how can you like a party system when its main intention is to always divide a nation?

well by god, what kind of policies are you looking for? we've got every side of the spectrum right now. one libertarian with conservative viewpoints, and a handful of socialists and neo-cons. what more could you ask for?

Quote from: rtiland how can you like a party system when its main intention is to always divide a nation?
If there were no parties, we would be voting for about 15+ candidates in the general election. It would be terrible. I personally think 3rd party candidates should be considered major players in the presidential race but it's not going to happen. I also believe that all political debates should give every candidate equal air time. The only reason why political parties are designed to split us apart is because of the corrupt way they're currently designed. All primaries should be open primaries and a person's political party should be based on their beliefs. For example, if primaries were open primaries, I would seriously look into the Green party.

We did have a candidate for every side of the spectrum but now that Kucinich dropped out, it no longer really applies.

kucinich is a libertarian with socialist domestic policies. interesting, but not that different of a ticket

also america elected leaders for over a hundred years without a two-party system. our founding fathers also warned against it. there is no way a party system can exist without corruption. parties are only created for that very purpose

The party system doesn't have to be as corrupt as it currently is. Even though I'm not big on government limitations, it would be nice if the government did a few things to prevent parties from being as corrupt as they currently are.

Edit-

Very liberal people such as myself are fairly screwed this election.

how could you depend on the government to fix the party system, when the government's lifeblood is politicians and lobbyists who are the very ones who corrupted it? look, all the party system does or ever has done is alienate voters and force them to pick a side.

at this point i feel like anyone who is a liberal is not looking at the big picture. you guys talk a lot about saving social programs that are bankrupt while the nation is $9 trillion dollars in debt and on the edge of a major recession. i'm not quite sure how anyone could breathe life into costly social programs when there's literally no money left to spend on the needy. we're spending money in places we don't need to, and these programs aren't doing good for anyone. No Child Left Behind is a bust, our education hasn't improved at all since the program was put in place. Social Security is going to collapse as the baby boomers retire, and we'll be paying for it for the rest of our lives and will get nothing. Medicare and medicaid are miniature examples of why socialized medicine would not work in this country, yet half of the candidates out there want to put it in place.

liberal = larger government = more spending, more taxes, and more bureaucracy.

sure, i'd like to take out a loan - but i don't. i'd only be adding to the mess. i can fend for myself and anyone else can too if they put their mind to it. but our nation has come to believe we can sit on our ass and it's ok because the government will take care of us. problem is, a small group of people in DC don't know what's best for you or me or the guy next door. and we're the ones electing these people. doesn't anyone get it? we keep electing people with empty promises of a liberal utopia , and it is just not possible under any circumstances.

I think the real problem with parties is the corrupt people who are able to make decision regarding political parties.

Bush is the reason why we're so much in debt. He has to be the worst money manager ever. If it weren't for him, we could easily afford a lot of programs that help the needy.

Quote from: rtilwe're spending money in places we don't need to, and these programs aren't doing good for anyone.
There's a lot of truly unnecessary spending in our government. I think I even heard that the government paid some company one million dollars to make foreign commercials. Talk about a waste of tax dollars.

Quote from: rtilNo Child Left Behind is a bust, our education hasn't improved at all since the program was put in place.
No Child Left Behind has it's pros and cons. They either need to revamp it or replace it with something much better.

Quote from: rtilSocial Security is going to collapse as the baby boomers retire, and we'll be paying for it for the rest of our lives and will get nothing.
I'm against privatizing social security. By having the government in charge of social security, there's a lot less risks.

Quote from: rtilMedicare and medicaid are miniature examples of why socialized medicine would not work in this country, yet half of the candidates out there want to put it in place.
I don't know enough about Medicare and Medicaid to have an opinion on it.

Quote from: rtilliberal = larger government = more spending, more taxes, and more bureaucracy.
I consider myself very liberal but maybe I'm less liberal than I think I am. From what I've seen, I pretty agree with Dennis Kucinich on most issues except for his stance on border control and I wasn't very fond of his gun control policy. If he's considered a Libertarian with socialist domestic policies, maybe I am as well. I don't know a lot about Libertarianism but I like the idea of the government having less power and giving states more power.

Quote from: rtilsure, i'd like to take out a loan - but i don't. i'd only be adding to the mess. i can fend for myself and anyone else can too if they put their mind to it. but our nation has come to believe we can sit on our ass and it's ok because the government will take care of us. problem is, a small group of people in DC don't know what's best for you or me or the guy next door. and we're the ones electing these people. doesn't anyone get it? we keep electing people with empty promises of a liberal utopia , and it is just not possible under any circumstances.
A liberal utopia isn't going to happen but if we get a politician in office who can get this country out of this war, help fix our economy, and help get this country to a point where the debt continuously goes down, we can probably afford certain programs without much of a problem. We obviously can't have things like universal health until we get out of this war. It's a shame Kucinich dropped out because his 12 point plan sounded great.

Nadroj0711

i think you're more libertarian than you think
i thought i was liberal because i thought liberal was like free, open-minded, we're not going to stop you from doing what you need to do, and conservative was like, "conserve" life as it is now, like closed-minded, intolerant people, who are frightened by the thought of a homosexual or non-christian person and were against any form of change to better suit modern life.
that is a common stereotype for conservatives and i guess liberalism isn't quite what i thought it was, so after re-thinking it, i discovered the "libertarian" point of view, and how it was like the best of both worlds. and it's not like liberalism just because they both begin with the same letters. libertarian is like liberty as it should be, without too much government control over everyday life. the states get more power of that kind because it's easier to control a big country that way.
wow, this is like my longest post ever.
