interdasting.....................

the hard part will be finding time to sit down and watch these movies before that week.

They're both only an hour long if that makes a difference.

Part 3 was overall a disappointment, and given this studio's track record with three part cashgrabs, it's probably one I should have expected. While there was nothing in it quite as rage-inducing or trolltastic as Madoka Rebellion, the art simply wasn't up to snuff with the preceding two parts. Not only that, but the first 20 or so minutes were wasted delivering a truncated backstory anyone who's seen Onimonogatari already knew, and had seen done better, so it felt like Shaft making concessions to casual fans, not only there, but also in so many unnecessary flashbacks to the first two films that were no doubt included to pad out the length.

I would've forgiven this trespass had the art been as amazing as in the first two films, but around half the shots seemed to have suffered from budget cuts or outsourcing, no doubt due to that boring stupid shitty shogi show that they were producing around the same time that I hate. I wish they'd've just scrapped that series and focused on making Part 3 the best in the trilogy, and the fact that they didn't feels like a bit of a betrayal to the people who made them the money to produce stupid boring depressive shogi shows in the first place (then again, so did Rebellion). It's a gentle reminder that these companies primarily exist to make profits, even ones dealing in high designs like Shaft does.

That said, the writing and storytelling in the second half made for a satisfying conclusion, if only the art could have done them as much justice as the voice acting and Dada-influenced direction did. I'd give this one a hard 6/10 for these reasons, with the first two landing 7 and 8/10 respectively. Kinda made me wish the money for the last hour and the dumb shogi show could've been spent cutting all three parts down to a 2.5 hour feature with tighter editing and consistent animation. I would've paid the combined ticket price of 45 fucking dollars to see that alone (after having spent 30 fucking dollars to see the first two parts individually).

Still liked it, but it could've been fucking amazing. Parts 1 and 2 are things I think even casual fans of animation and design in general could appreciate. Part 3 didn't have to impress anyone as much because Shaft, Aniplex, and my local arthouse theater already have our money. Oh well. Did I mention part 2 is a masterpiece?

Take ice scones and pack it in the movie truck and then beep beep beep backwards onto the art house theatre. Open the back up and sell the ice/sno cones. Hand out pamphlets to the buyers to tell them, no, the art house does not need pocket change.
