i'm 12 episodes in to bake and i don't know how i feel about it

the dichotomy of it all is a lot to take in. it deals with a lot of relatable feelings, emotions and ideas about relationships - but the world it takes place in is so strangely sterile and alien, with a dash of supernatural themes, fanservice and action. i think it's at its best when senjougahara is involved. i know there's like 15 other monogatari series and movies but i'll probably take a little break after bake. it's very pretty but again very heavy especially on the dialogue. i'd rather pace myself than get burnt out

Oh glad you're giving it another shot. I'd gotten the impression you disliked this franchise in the past.

I think you're right the environments are quite sterile, but I'd also argue the characters fill them well by being larger than life (that or NishiOishiN is no good at group dialogue but I prefer the former). You may disagree, but the insert shots of city infrastructure I find much nicer to look at than 3D-rendered crowds. They pretty af.

Also yes Senjougahara is easily my favorite character in Bake. Best father-chaperoned date scene of all time.

Definitely not a series to rush through if you ask me. Even if you're not in love enough with the style to enjoy Nisemonogatari (generally considered the worst cour but I like it), it's worth suffering through to get to Second Season, which imo is one of the best animated productions OAT.

Hope you enjoy the last few episodes they're among the best.

this is my first time ever actually watching it

i was turned off by it initially because the most popular scene ever posted from the whole franchise is the toothbrush scene which i find revolting, personally. so i got the wrong impression of it

Ah yeah that'd be Nise. Personally I find the scene funny and relatively harmless in context but it's still controversial. Hopefully it doesn't ruin the show for you.

He's not. It's a very heat of the moment scene and played entirely for laughs/satire.

Definitely an edgier tone for this series to take gee wiz hot damn.

Still expecting the most amazing production since Redline if the first two parts' trajectory continues.

Oh dang you right. Thankfully Shinkai's latest wallpaper slideshow is playing for at least a week in all the theaters I checked. Kizumono is 1-3 nights only nation wide.

You really ain't gotta be trust me. In fact, if you've only seen Bakemonogatari you'd be viewing the animations in the order the original novels were released. This is a prequel to everything else.
