time to die

Finally. Nothing is sacred except the constant of death.

00:30 - The PPG in room listening to boy band
02:30 - The PPG fly to Monster Isle to rescue the Mayor, whose plane has crashed there
04:30 - The PPG fall into a subterranean volcano due to convenient seismic activity, where they fight a lava she-giant
06:30 - The volcano is about to erupt, but Blossom cannot warn her sisters because she is jinxed, and is thus mute until someone says her name
07:20 - The PPG are launched high into the air by said volcano, JttCotE style, where they engage in an aerial battle with prehistoric sky beasts
08:35 - The PPG are immobilized by tentacles belonging to a tree monster
09:30 - The PPG are rescued by the Mayor, who uses pickles to lure the flesh eating, carnivorous monsters away
10:30 - The PPG fly away from Monster Isle together, in time for the concert that night

This is what I like to call... bad plotting. Like holy shit. The only overarching story was Blossom and Buttercup trying to convince Bubbles to take them to a concert, which had almost nothing to do with what was happening on screen - and Gravity Falls did the same premise way better.

Also did anyone notice that both episodes had the PPG either being rescued by a man or being given a shitty didactic lesson by one (even though in the first it was a male air dancer) in order to overcome the central challenge? It's almost like this show is being written by people whom feminism means absolutely nothing to, people who haven't seen Utena, Sakura or Madoka.

This shit actually makes me mad. It's like most women in the west are so brainwashed they can't even tell when they're being dealt a sleight of hand by their own media. If I was a parent I would discourage my daughter(s) from watching this and put on the original instead.

This is almost as big a disappointment as Sailor Moon Crystal, but of course my expectations were somewhat higher for that.

to make matters worse the second that tiny dinosaur came on screen it was painfully obvious she was going to take that thing to the concert instead of either of the girls. all these regurgitated ideas are woefully underdeveloped

and the first episode completely disregarded the character of Buttercup. while she is impressionable, it only works on things she thinks are cool. like in the original PPG, there's an episode where she becomes involved with the Gangreen Gang. but it only happens because she is tricked into thinking that Ace is her friend and their rebellious nature resonates with her.  when Buttercup realizes she's been duped, she beats the shit out of them on her own terms.

in the new PPG, Buttercup does something totally against her character on a whim just because Blossom told her to. then she becomes an entirely different person overnight and can't snap out of it until the hippie man tells her it's ok, like he's brainwashed her.

at best it's lazy writing. but i think you're right - these plotlines are subversive to the heart of PPG and to women.

Toei is really good at disappointing their fanbase. at least S3 will have hand-animated henshin.

ThatOneGvy

I miss Buttercup's raspy smoker voice.

You're right, plus most of the punchlines play in my head before anyone says them.

God that barely even registered. I figured it was one of those instances of a character overcompensating for their flaws before said flaws spilling over again, but that was totally out of character you're right. Buttercrush was a great episode though.

I made the mistake of buying into the hype. Should have known better.

Dropped it towards the end of S1. Should I pick it back up?

Good news for Powerpuff Girls fans. Cartoon Network has ordered 40 episodes for the first season of the animated reboot series. The original Powerpuff Girls ran from 1998 to 2005.

The new series will once again follow the adventures of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup—three superpowered girls who fight villains before bedtime. In a recent interview, the series' executive producers—Nick Jennings and Bob Boyle—said Cartoon Network has ordered 40 episodes for the show's first season:

*sigh*

the Black Moon arc has its moments. once Chibi-usa shows up things get better. you can tell that many different directors were passed around on certain episodes and even certain shots. so, still wildly inconsistent but not nearly as clumsy.

that's about standard for a single season. we'll see if it lasts for a 2nd. it could last a long time on nostalgia alone. they're pushing it pretty heavily. it already has a japanese dub

I've thrown an episode up
http://www.cyberpounce.nu/stuff/The.Powerpuff.Girls.S01E01.1080p.WEB.h264-QCF.mkv -- feel free to stream
didn't see the youtube links

It's animation feels like an attempt of Gravity Falls, everything seems forced and Blossom's voice sounds just sounds.. not right.
