they had a falling out with their original publisher and i'm pretty sure there was a lawsuit involved that didn't go in their favor. regardless they're an independent company now (lab zero) and they need support to keep their game going forward

Last June, much of the Skullgirls development team was laid off. This had nothing to do with the game or its sales; Skullgirls' financial support was simply cut off as a result of a costly legal battle that was strangling our publisher, Autumn Games. These ongoing legal difficulties kept Autumn from being able to continue its support for the game. We always had big plans for Skullgirls, and hoped to keep growing the game and its community with new characters and game updates, but without funding, these plans unfortunately had to wait.

While we've been able to continue working on the patch and have recently made progress on the PC version with Autumn's help, neither of these has been able to pay our extremely talented and dedicated art staff. So, in many ways, this campaign is also a last-ditch effort to keep the Skullgirls team together, working on the game we love so.

Until this moment I had no idea rtil worked on skullgirls. This is one of the most incredible, and disgustingly sad, moments of my life. I actually watched that guy from his beginnings until not that long ago, then got engaged and stopped caring about anything at all, then was left by fiancee and continued to not care about anything at all, then met this other chick and cared about her and then got engaged again.... we'll see how that one ends... wait what was I saying?.... oh yeah anyway, I grew up with this guy and he's helped to create one of the greatest contemporary games and also helped to inspire me to take up art again and all the while I had no idea. History rhymes and shit,

you inspired me once and for a long time, but i got distracted by other things and lost track of what you were up to and really stopped being an artist of any sort. id been really interested in skullgirls for ages though, and then played it not that long ago and thought it was so fantastic, and the art so engaging, that I actually wanted to start drawing and writing and blah blah blah, so I did. then i came here and registered again after not having been around for four years to discover that you yourself were in part responsible for the urge to come back. it's neat like a little circle. or a mark twain quote.

discovering you worked on skullgirls, therefore, was something of a miracle in a coincidence for me.
it's also disgustingly sad because it just goes to show how much of a lazy apathetic slob I've been for four years.
