it seems like the response from the fans for their april fools toonami comeback have piqued their interest. this hash tag has been retweeted at least a hundred times every goddamn minute, steven blum is more than excited to do it, and they obviously have the resources to do it.

i think it would be a huge mistake for them at this point not to bring toonami back after the response from fans. obviously toonami had a huge impact on our generation and it has the chance to do it again , and boost ratings of course. a healthy mix of new anime and action cartoons combined with the ones we grew up with, complete with tom 3.0 on a revamped absolution, combined with adult swim and maybe even a new midnight run? i think it would be amazing.

I certainly hope for its return, but fear for its success if it does. I know a lot of people are harboring for it, but I doubt even half of them will actively watch it.

Well they just need to be wise about their air times if they do, and not make it all that often, with enough gaps in time to get people excited for the next showing. I would say once a week max, maybe even 1-2 times a month. Of course I just say this because I really don't want to see it fail miserably. Not that we even know for sure they'll do it...

chances are that's probably what they'd do anyway, once a week.
but if you show it less than that, it would take way too long to complete a show run. at a rate of once a week, you get one episode a week of most shows, so a typical show takes as many weeks as it has episodes to finish, which can sometimes be extremely long. dbz for example would take over 4 years.

cipher's got a point.  Sure they might bring it back, but Toonami fans need to seriously commit to it and watch, especially if they have a Nielsen box.  Watch the damn thing and keep supporting it.

I don't want the block to become an zombified abomination like "The 90's Are All That".  You know, bare minimum effort, only five shows aired endlessly (with an occasional special U pick or something every 2-3 months).  Also doing stuff like only airing three seasons of a show and cutting out huge parts of the show for some reasons (AKA Musical Guests).

As you can see, I have a huge beef with that horrible, horrible block.

Yeah you've got a point there, 1-2 times a month would mean it would take a lifetime to go through all of DBZ or whatever long shows they would be.. showing. Speaking of such, I wonder what they would show - there's no way it would be 100% of the same line up it used to have, they'll probably splice in some of the anime and things already running / have ran in the past [on adult swim].

rtil

they will show things that bring in ratings first like dbz and bleach, and as the night goes on more varied stuff.

ZennyPLUS

Sounds all too good to be true. If this ever did happen, I'd have to start buying cable again.

dilly

i hope they come back showing old and new material. since it would be showing late at night, we could rule out they would show sailor moon and cardcaptors :I

They never had toonami here, they just played anime whenever. I don't know why Americans care so much for it, do they not play anime on cartoon network now?

i guess seeing a poorly animated robot voiced by a guy who's already heard in everything in between some cheesy anime shows magically transports this particular generation back to happier days

whether or not you like steve blum's voice acting or think he's overused, toonami's tom was a really charming character that fans (and seemingly everyone here) liked, especially that particular design. i don't know what you're on about with him being "poorly animated", do you think he needs to be a pixar film to be in 10 second pre-and-post commercial bumps? and in general, i think a lot of the anime from that point is better than the anime currently on adult swim, particularly cyborg 009, yu yu hakusho, rurouni kenshin and a handful of others in comparison to recently aired ones on adult swim like bleach and kekkaishi.

i'm assuming you're trolling (wow!!!!!!! amazing!!!!!!!), but if you're not, that's my explanation on why toonami is good

dilly

the only anime cartoon network played after toonami was yu-gi-oh and pokemon

so yeah. we need anime

here's the way i see it - toonami introduced anime to our generation. if toonami never existed, i think i'd be a very different person today, and may have never even gone on to become an animator, have the friends that i have and there's a lot of special memories there. so toonami shaped my life in a big way.

near toonami's end, the segment got butchered and eventually chopped. it was heartbreaking to see it go and anime on CN be reserved to an hour of bakugan and a very late night block on saturday nights with bleach and years of rerunning the same shows.

i dont want to see toonami back just for myself, but for another generation who deserves to see it. not the same toonami i saw, but a new one, with a healthy mix of recent releases and the ones they have licensed for decades, and of course toonami tom as the host who really did make the segment 10 times cooler.
