here's the way i see it - toonami introduced anime to our generation. if toonami never existed, i think i'd be a very different person today

probably same for me

then again, some people were never children

you mean some people stopped being children

come on guys toonami was fun back in the 90s but if you sincerely want awful shit like gundam wing back you should probably visit a psychiatrist

this kind of stunted development is highly pathological and quite possibly indicative of deep seated emotional problems

bringing back toonami doesn't and shouldn't entail making a replica of the toonami we grew up with in the 90's. it should be a healthy mix of the old and the new

and please don't try and argue that anything that someone grew up with and still finds enjoyable later in their life is suffering from stunted development. you'll just make yourself look like an idiot , which to your credit you're very good at.

then why even bring it back? it's done, let it go! and it didn't even end THAT long ago if wiki is to be believed (2008).

"anything" is a little vague, isn't it? sure most things people enjoy in childhood and carry on into adulthood are just fine, but for grown men and women to develop a fixation on bad cartoons and toys intended for the young is more than a little troubling and a growing phenomenon. it can be seen everywhere on the internet, just look at otakus, MLP, etc... these people are obviously regressive, strange and ill-equipped for life, and could probably benefit from counseling and medical aid.

because a replica of the 90's toonami would be boring? we've already seen those shows. it would only make sense for the block to have both new and old shows, otherwise the segment isnt going to accomplish what it did 15 years ago. and i never said it ended a long time ago, i don't see what that has to do with anything. but the last era of toonami kind of sucked when they made tom 4.0
i don't think anyone liked this model

your definition of bad is entirely subjective , and a lot of the material aired on toonami was heavily cut, edited and censored and i would not say that the programming was meant exclusively for children. there was death, blood, nudity, sexual themes and serious stories that often involved heavy themes like self-sacrifice and the meaning of life, dealing with mortality, love, etc.

just because something is animated doesn't mean it is aimed at children and that only children are allowed to enjoy it. you may not know this, but all animation is made by adults. the mark of a good animated movie or television program is one that has characters, writing and a story that is timeless and ageless. something you enjoy as a child and an adult, but perhaps for different reasons as you grow older and see things that flew over your head as a kid.

even if it is something childish in nature like spongebob or my little pony, there should be no shame to enjoy something like that as an adult (within reason). it's not like they are hurting anyone by enjoying cartoons, and i think they're helping break a stereotype that it is shameful or wrong for an adult to watch or like cartoons. sure, sometimes people can go overboard with the fanfictions and sexual fantasies or what have you, but most people are NOT like that. if you don't believe me you spend too much time on the internet.

why do you believe that adults who enjoy cartoons with a younger audience as a fanbase need counseling and therapy? there must be some very deep seated prejudices you stand by to be so deluded and cynical.

how does this have anything to do with us? how does wanting to bring back toonami or having an interest in seeing an older generation of anime anywhere near the same lines as creepy obsessions like the otaku and brony cultures?

This right here. Despite having a lot of the more mature content cut from the shows, they themes a lot of them presented remained intact. Blue Submarine No. 6, Outlaw Star, and more had some pretty mature themes that simply aren't in most kids shows today, and that is why they had a profound impact on the generation that watched them. It isn't just fond memories, these shows have been repeatedly called some of the best animes ever made, and for good reason.

Wtf is this shit? That's not Tom.

rtil

sadly, it is supposed to be. steven blum voiced him. it's tom 4.0, he lasted about a year until toonami's end.

If Toonami is brought back, it should bring back fat Tom.

They never had toonami here, they just played anime whenever. I don't know why Americans care so much for it, do they not play anime on cartoon network now?

i guess seeing a poorly animated robot voiced by a guy who's already heard in everything in between some cheesy anime shows magically transports this particular generation back to happier days

well that seems pretty pointless to me.

rtil

well that's not what toonami was, so.. yeah.
