Its been a long time since I last posted here so I thought I better start a new thread. Life's pretty hectic these days, im back at school after 7 years out in the world studying film and television. Im also running my own business doing animation for TV commercials and web banners. Be that as it may I still get a chance to animate my own stuff from time to time as well as do some illustration. So I guess I will start with the animation i've done over the last year, short stuff that is.

Planet Hopping

The Big Fly

Eat Da Moon

Maskerade Bawl

Gerkinman Space Dementia

Party on Bald Mountain

Super Cock Joke Bros

Recurring Dream

Felix and Lochie

The Ultimate Bromance

Blah Blah Blah

manny

nice gig u got, im glad u post on youtube,, grade A in my b00k,, more boogers

cipher

yeah - good to see you're still doing stuff

Gerkinman

Thanks guys.

I wont be putting up any of my commercial work until I get my new show reel together, but i've done some animation for google and volkswagen which has been fun. Wont be doing anymore real animated shorts until after im finished doing this film and tv course tho.

Heres some drawings from the last couple of months. Most are just quick doodles I did whenever I had 10 minutes spare.

you do that bouncy effect for every movement they make. it's a little distracting, plus i think the heavy outline kinda makes them pop too much in the lineless universe you put them in. but it looks like something you had to make rather quickly

Cheers rtil, it was something that all up I had around 10 hours to spend on, and im pretty happy with how it came out considering.

For an idea of what my stuff looks like when I do spend time on it check out the trailer for my next proper short film below.

that's a lot nicer. sometimes i think your color choices are too close together and things start to get muddied (like on 0:29, the main character's eyes and skin are so close together), i think lines would sometimes help you where you dont put them. they also dont have the same lighting as the backgrounds they're in from time to time and they kinda pop out. like the bus is all dark and dreary b ut they're very brightly lit. still, it isnt bad, its just not something i'm used to seeing.

I still cant draw but now that I have come to terms with it I am enjoying drawing more then ever. True life story.

Anyway, thats some concept for my next film, not sure if I will be sticking to black shadows or just darker tonnes of the main colours.

rtil

honestly i'd stay away from black. it reminds me of clipart from powerpoint. pick something darker than the background shadow but not black. it can be close, but black always popped out too much for me.

Now Powerpoint is all I can see... point taken.

I like your sig(:

Cheers, just a quick little self portrait I did the other day after getting a job at an animation studio doing visual effects. Was feeling chuffed. Was the first thing I had really drawn in months.

I like the art style you have for your next film & for your signature.

Also I like your avatar!

Really I should be thanking Zekey for this art style, we worked on a music video together back in 2009 with Dead Leaves being a big visual influence and I think we both kind of drifted away from it since.

Like A Brother

Its something I have been wanting to get back into for ages now, but I have really done anything with it since I did this short animation for Frederator about a year ago.

Frederator

Its a style I like working with because im not a very proficient animator (I do mainly visual effects in After Effects now) and I find I can do a lot of weird mixed perspectives and things with it without worrying about them looking wrong. Hopefully I will be able to keep refining it over time.
