Saw the Lorax today and wanted to see anyone else's thoughts to the film?

For me, I loved it and the lorax was a great character whom I felt for the whole time. The once-ler was my 2nd fav character and I liked all the parts that involved him and his flashbacks. These two characters were the most believable and carried (for me) the true heart of the film while the rest was just pandering to marketing of cute animals and teens who like Zac Efron. If you can get past that, the film just has some wonder visuals and Dr Seuss designs that are real eye candy AND the lorax story really is in there and still makes me tear when you see the outcomes of the once-lers actions...just be ready for the kiddy parts I mentioned and they won't bother too much. Some surprises for me was the film is a musical...they never once revealed in any promos that this was a musical but it was haha. The only really good song was "How Bad can I Be?" the one the once-ler sings while he's destroying everything and killing all the animals haha ...it's basically the "bad guy" song in the film and it reminded me of something like if doctor suess and the warden from superjail had a musical number hah. The audience was mostly kids and parents with mixes of teens around 13-16....there were no adults or college looking kids so I did feel a little out of place there but eh I kinda knew it's not really made for my age group so that's to be expected. Overall I'll watch it again on DVD...it kind of had the same taste of Horton Hears a Who so if you liked that film you'll probably like this one too. I hope to see Illumination doing more films....I really liked how cartoony they seem to style their pictures (i.e. Despicable me) and they pull it off very well for CGI animation.

i can't make myself go see this film for two reasons. first off, the marketing and product placement - the icing on the cake has to be the goddamn mazda commercial with the lorax in it. dr seuss has gotta be spinning in his grave from all the irony. secondly, the lorax is .. well i don't really think there's enough content in the book to make a good movie out of, which means that there's gotta be a lot of extra padding in the movie. and the lorax is kind of a jerk, but i cant figure out if he's the main character or the boy is. i dunno, the trailers and the premise just rub me the wrong way. i dont see how or why the lorax shouldve been turned into a feature length film.

If you didn't like Horton hears a Who (which takes some liberties from the book and added a few characters and embellished on the whoville city and mayor and the vulture and kangaroo) then you won't like the Lorax (which takes some liberties from the book too and added a few characters like the boy and theed-ville the city where they have to buy clean air because no trees exists anymore)....both movies are telling the books they are based on but are also giving more info about the world they live in and the characters that live there to set the groundwork for the story that goes on.

and for the record the lorax is not a jerk! He's like the sweetest character in the whole movie...poor fluffy guy.  ;_;
