This will be a topic where i will drop recipes for things i cook now and then. If anyone else wants to post things they've cooked and instructions feel free!

So first thing i will post about is trifle. You can prepare the various parts separately over the course of the day. However, I'd recommend you start with the jelly the night before, or the morning of the day you intend to have it.
'Cooking Dillys' provided by dilly ; )

Get hold of some jelly cubes and follow the instructions on the packet. Get the bowl you want to make the trifle in and fill up a third of the way (a little less if bowl is on the smaller side) with the jelly you just made and leave it to cool/set.



Next up you'll need to do the cake sponge layer.
You'll need: Butter 4oz/100g, self-rising flour 4oz/100g, castor sugar 4oz/100g, 2 eggs, cocoa powder 1 tablespoon and milk 1 tablespoon.

- Preheat oven to 180/350 Celsius/Fahrenheit. Blend together the butter and sugar in a food processor at a low speed for about a minute and then add the eggs one by one.
- Mix the cocoa into the flour through a sieve and add to the mix 1 spoonful at a time. Add one tablespoon of milk and blend until really smooth.
- Pour into a well-greased sandwich tin (20cm) and smooth over, but be sure to have it dip in the middle slightly as it will rise more there.
- Put into the oven, test after 20 minutes by poking a skewer through the centre, if dry its done, if not then check again every 5 minutes until ready.
- Take it out and let it cool in the tin for 5 minutes before removing carefully with a pallet knife. Once cooled, cut to fit the middle of the bowl

After this you can work on the custard layer.
You'll need: 3/4 pint/420ml of milk, custard powder 2 heaped tablespoons, cocoa 1 tablespoon and sugar 2 tablespoons

- Mix together the custard powder, cocoa and sugar into a measuring jug, add 2-3 tablespoons of the milk and mix to smooth paste.
- Put the rest of the milk into a saucepan and bring to boil on a low temperature.
- Once the milk is gently boiling, pour into measuring jug and mix thoroughly with the paste.
- Pour back into the saucepan and bring to boil on a low heat stirring continuously. Once thickened, pour over the sponge, leave to cool before adding cream.

Thanks for all the nice feedback fellas. Although looking at it now i think i chose something a little much for an initial meal, so next thing i post will be simpler and something you'd be more inclined to make for yourself. Thanks again and i promise i wont take god knows how long to do the next one!

Generally you put them in boiling water to a certain ratio to the cubes you have (for example with the ones i used i did 2/3 of the jelly cubes and 1 pint of boiling water) and then pour it into the bottom third of the bowl. I decided it was better to say follow the instructions on the packet because the packet someone else uses won't necessarily be the same size/quantity or have the same instructions. Hope this helped.

I guess it's not obvious, but the bowl that the jelly is in is the same bowl he applies the sponge cake and everything else to afterwards
