i don't know the people that you know. the people that i know neglect to get jobs, go to school or do anything and instead continue to live in their parent's homes to play world of warcraft. they neglected all their obligations and now they don't have any and that makes them comfortable. many of them have admitted to me the game really isn't fun at all, and that the entire process is just a grind - but they do it to avoid any real work in real life.

WoW is shit, if anything I would categorize it as an IM service on steroids than an actual game. It works okay, it has few glitches, but it has no substance to it, everything is tedious and lame, and there isn't even a good story to follow; you just randomly do lame quests for lame characters that just stand there. None of the NPCs you meet have any soul or charm to them whatsoever, they are just 3D models that wiggle about. In comparison, I painstakingly try to avoid casualties when playing games like Red Alert 2 because the individual units have so much character delivered to you just because of the voice acting.

I like much of the lore behind Warcraft, such as the trolls of Zul'Aman and the Orc/Draenei conflict, but these are things that are either played out all wrong or just downplayed to a point where it isn't interesting anymore.

Could have been worse, though, they could have made Stars of Starcraft.

well everything you said up there is pretty much the backbone behind a lot of my reasoning about MMO's in general. it's an effective time waster and gives people an excuse to avoid their obligations. they always give you something tedious to do in the game and its rewards are usually minimal but it gives you a reason to say "just 5 more minutes" for, well, the rest of your life

Wasted FPS potential? That's not Nintendo's fault. Chances are, considering how excellent the controls were in Metriod Prime 3, there will most likely be some good FPS games in the near future.

Metroid Prime 3 was a LAUNCH TITLE. Everyone who wants to play and beat it has done so.

Also, within a year and a half of the Wii's release, gamers got games like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mario Kart Wii so it's not like they've completely failed their longtime customers.

We don't even know what Nintendo plans to do this year. Let's just wait and see. For all we know, there might be an F-Zero sequel, a Pikmin sequel, and a sequel to Animal Crossing this fall. So far, I'm pleased with the library but I'll admit SSB:B got way too much hype and didn't fully succeed. As for the GCN releasing everything at once, now that I think of it, you're actually kind of right. >_>

As for the "no good games coming out anytime soon" comment, Nintendo hasn't released it's E3 2008 plans yet so many gamers may be surprised this E3 and if Nintendo completely fucks up this year when it comes to good games released, that's because all their major franchises all released games within such a short period of time after the launch where with systems like the N64 and GCN, it took years for Nintendo to release games of all their major franchises.

for the N64? sure. Not for the gamecube.
the last big nintendo-owned franchise that came to the cube and didnt fuck up (i'm lookin at YOU, zelda four swords) was F-Zero.

everything else was mostly third party shovelware with the occasional masterpiece (ikaruga, twin snakes) tossed in.

What about Metroid Prime 2? I will admit that after Resident Evil 4 released, the system went to shit.

The system lacks a solid library but if someone is into a ton of different genres, they'd most likely find the PS3's library fairly decent.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village (point and click HARD puzzle game)
