I'm working on a school project and I'd like some feedback for a bit I just animated (these are the keys only):
http://people.umass.edu/jgchan/queen/queen...up_anim_003.swf

So other than the audio quality or the voice or lack of colors, anything you guys are willing to say? (specifically the acting and lipsync)

Sinitron

choppy like a meatchopper to the face of a chickenstalker <DAWG>

FG_SPace

the "all" should be more exaggerated. then inbetween.
eyes are nice

Loathsome

It's okay. Would look better with brushtool though.

I'm going for a classical cell animation look. This is what it will look like in the end (sort of... this is a fast coloring job):

I'm changing the black lines to one that is only slightly darker than the fill that occupies it, which really lightens up the features.

I'll redraw the "all" frame; when I'm done I'll post it.

Also Sinitron doesn't know what keyframes are

everything is so straight on , it's honestly kind of boring. if there's not even going to be any shoulder movement at least some sort of head tilt (besides up and down) would happen. either way you probably don't have time to go back and do that now, but for future dialogue tests i would really suggest getting the whole body into it instead of just the head.

The head and body are on different layers, so I can go back in and add in some motion. I'll draw in a couple different head tilt frames to see how that looks.

The shot before this is a back (full body) shot of Snow White waving her arms around in the air and then crossing her ams, so her upper body is sort of locked in place, unless I change it so that she crosses her arms during this shot. Otherwise I don't know what I can add in there for shoulder motion.

I do, not that it would make a difference; This looks like nothing more than a bad attempt at rotoscoping someone. You asked for animation feedback, but there's hardly any animation in the first place!

rtil

you're directly working off a scene from the film?

There was hardly any feedback in the first place. Pose tests are ALWAYS choppy. I'll also have you know that I never trace anything (reference != tracing).

Rtil, this is the scene I'm trying to model this after:

Oh, wretched ephemeral race ... why do you compel me to tell you what it would be most expedient for you not to hear? What is best of all is utterly beyond your reach: not to be born, not to be, to be nothing. But the second best for you is—to die soon.

tbh thor, the scene in the movie is far more interseting. a 3/4ths view and she looks much more menacing. i think you could have done a lot more with this scene. i think you can make up for it with some evil dynamic lighting, though

Sort of wish I had the storyboards to show you guys (I left them at school... Spring break right now), but the camera gradually pulls out and it turns out you're looking through the mirror at the queen/Snow White.

But yes, I agree. The 3/4 view is much more effective, but it doesn't fit into what needs to get done. I still need to talk to my partner about this though about possibly changing it, because you're right in that it's stiff (this is why I should've done more animation tests before hand!)

The lesson learned is that I have a hard time animating anything realistic and I'm a terrible actor when it comes to coming across as a beautiful woman. Also, I need to work on drawing fingers. I'd work on them more, but this assignment is due Tuesday and I still need to color/compile these onto the backgrounds and play around with after effects stuff.

Gad. I could use another week to work on this. So much for spring break :[

I don't like that style I don't know why it just seems... too clean... Sorry to disappoint you

Actually I don't like it that much either. It feels too cold and stiff; I suppose this comes from a lack of experience with working realistically (Give me a goofy looking character and I'll make it squash and stretch all over the place).

I'm really hoping that the color adds life into it.

[edit] Video's going up in a sec with better quality
Ehh... not bad for a student project.

rtil

i don't see anything

Thor

I had compression issues and then I changed around one of the settings, so I deleted it and uploaded the new one. The old one had TERRIBLE quality... this still doesn't do the real one justice, but hey, youtube isn't HD720p

Just so you guys know, I did the character animation and the multiplane camera moving stuff. My partner did the background layouts and the story
