So long as they're totally kool, you should be golden. I usually prefer mammals and/or small, living animals because they're easier to imagine having as a pet in some distant future. I've just spent a while talking to a friend about pet rats, which I really think should swap their reputation with hamsters.
Unfortunately timed, right before leaving my last home, I was offered to take on a pet snake for no change and with all equipment included. Though I'd rather a mammal whose feelings are more relatable, I'm still disappointed I wasn't able.
