Going to see The Boy and the Beast this Friday. Will report back.

Bamyasi

In that case I'd suggest not watching the trailer for it.

Unless

Well, are there are trailers for it that aren't presumably spoiler-filled, or perhaps do you care enough to share some spoiler-free details about it? It's the one of the two that I don't know, and I don't much like that convention where they reveal so much in the advertisements that you don't even need to go see the film afterwards.

Bamyasi

I don't really watch trailers and also haven't seen this movie but this one seems less offensive (as in not showcasing plot elements that might otherwise have been pleasant surprises):

No idea when it's coming to Europe though. I do know Keiichi Hara's new movie Miss Hokusai and Tatsuyuki Nagai's Anthem of the Heart are playing in the UK for anyone who lives there.

Unless

Neat, thanks. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars are both films that a particular friend of mine showed me, so I guess he likes the director and might suggest we watch it together some time, which at least saves me from suspicions of colossal furfaggotry. I just really like flying Whales I guess.

Also thank for reminding me that I'm meant to be going to the cinema with this one guy before I head home.

It's got to be a great life being a furry and also a decent animator in this decade

Unless

Or a furry and a bad animator in the last one.

You should watch Ami to Yuki. Same director.

I ... I never said that I was actually into that! B-baka!

i don't think i like Mamoru Hosoda's movies as much as the internet does, especially Summer Wars. but what interests me about this movie is it looks like a mix of all the things he's done in the past. i'm slightly curious about it

I'm with you there. Same with Shinkai.

I don't mind the generation they've influenced though, and I'd still actively seek out a venue to see their stuff.

rtil

Shinkai is really good at producing eyecandy. it's too bad that's all he's good at

Bamyasi

Yeah I never found his character designs and animations very flattering.

He's pretty good at musical montage. I'd also compliment his ability to capture emotions and environments but that's more abstract. The problem is he never actually does anything with them so his movies come out undercooked sentimental messes.

I still like him, but like you said tumblr and others go gaga for his stuff which I never got. It's well imitated lesser Ghibli at best, with added scenery porn for distraction, and I'd watch Whispers way sooner than Centimeters.

rtil

i think 5cm resonates with a lot of anime fans cuz the mc feeds their self-deprecation

Bamyasi

I don't even remember the MC in that movie, I only remember the montage at the end and the cherry blossom sakuga.

It didn't leave much of an impression.

i thought summer was was p lame but i watched wolf children and it was really good

it didnt really fall into the corny anime shit pratfalls that summer wars had i guess

Unless

The bunny was kind of cool though.

yeah i was p bummed that it wasnt more about the kids rabbit form as well as the virtual world, it seemed like a waste of a good design + a cool setting

edit: i wanted to fuck it

Unless

Consider elaborate ERP with mod-enabled versions of Overgrowth.
