ah yes, io9 dot com, undisputed source of scientific fact. today's top stories, "David Attenborough Narrates Miley Cyrus's VMA Twerk-formance", "Old Spock battles New Spock in the greatest car commercial ever" and "American Horror Story raises the dead, and probably has sex with it". i know i always go here when i'm looking for the latest in quality journalism. hope you haven't been waiting a long time to use this for something, and rather you just googled something in a frenzy to play devil's advocate. if it's the former, i'm disappointed you couldn't do a little better.

this article only makes a few relevant, factual statements: first, that the affluent and elite have a history of inbreeding, secondly, that inbreeding was unavoidable during certain stages in human history and geographic consequence, and lastly, that inbred couples have a tendency to be fertile - conveniently leaving out the fact that the average lifespans of inbred children are statistically stunted. the author also seems to have made several mathematical errors in his article which commenters had to correct for him. the correct versions of the math did not play into his arguments' favor.

may i remind everyone that just because something has been done in the past does not make it right. while tradition or necessity may have played a part in our ancient ancestor's inbreeding, we live in a modern society where reason trumps superstition on a planet populated by billions. one point made that i will agree with is that a 2nd or 3rd cousin is far enough removed and genetically diverse that them being a potential partner is, at the very least, safe - i will concede this. but a first cousin is, statistically speaking, genetically disadvantageous. and my original statement was more geared at father/mother sister/brother, which i have a hard time believing any of you here would be willing to defend on a moral or biological ground. every member of your family in your closest circle plays an important role in your life which is immediately shattered by any sexual intimacy.
