so the trailer for Wreck-It Ralph came out today

It looks pretty cute and inventive

plus it'll be interesting to see which characters they'll have and how they're involved in the story

A year or so ago, I wasn't too interested in this because it had "trying too hard to appeal to a demographic / something-something statement about video games" written all over it.

Then, I see Bowser, Zangief, Eggman, and Q-bert.

Oh product placement/celebrity endorsement(?), why do you do this to me...

The Q-bert part was really cute~

:3 The zombie is from House of Dead, and Paperboy makes an apperance too. I was a huge arcade junkie, so im pretty happy to see all of these characters again. Im really hoping for sinastar.

it'd be really sweet as a promotional move if they would put wreck-it ralph arcade games in arcades, which they could have done with tron

that's exactly why they're there, though. i'd bet that most of them simply make appearances for the sake of appearing on-screen.

i mean i hope i'm wrong but i am pretty sure they will cram as many cameos in as they can even if it's just for a moment to make fans of just about anything happy

i didn't get a "just be yourself" vibe from it. ralph obviously expresses that he is tired of doing what he's done his whole life and wants to change so he does something drastic. i think it's a more of a "finding yourself" story than anything else.

I demand Flandre Scarlet, Kyubey and Glados, otherwise this movie is gay!!1
But I actually wonder what they will do about the Donkey Kong franchise, as the main character seems to be clearly based on the old arcade games featuring him...

Yeah it is totally a "trying really hard to appeal to a demographic" move. I just have really mixed feelings now that actual recognizable characters are involved, as opposed to just "lots of made up/knock-off characters to avoid copyright infringement that gamers will TOTALLY enjoy!!1!" Now I'm not sure if it's trying too hard or trying and actually hitting a mark since some people want to watch solely for the cameos.

The movie Gamer was really wonky with its targeting by making it a movie about video games and video games being too violent. There's also in this scene (couldn't find it in English).

I admittedly winced when Ralph mentioned "since when did games get so violent" in the trailer.

So many mixed feelings...

Hopefully they won't make it like the wizard and just have a shitty movie with videogame references as it's only draw.

Unfortunately that's exactly what works on younger audiences. Give or take though I doubt it will be bad, just okay at the very least.
