dude i think that the internet bill is a huge breach of privacy, but i do think that maybe if it passes people will stop using the internet for social reasons and for entertainment. i would like that a lot

how is the concept of people not using the internet for socialization and entertainment a good thing? i've pretty much grown up my entire life doing this

fuck sopa there are no redeeming qualities of sopa

they should at least take down facebook as it is destroying society by causing unprecendented numbers of individuals to value online interactions more than real ones

yeah but like, whether this is a really bad thing or whether it doesn't matter is sort of up to opinion. i live in a shitty boring town where everyone does cocaine and pretty much nobody salvageable lives within walking distance (pretty much my only friend here who hasn't moved away lives more toward the city) and i don't have my driver's license yet. for someone like me, some of the interactions with people i've met online are quintessential for basically not being a gigantic lonely faggot

that's not to say that you don't need real life socialization -- i've found that not being around people for too long can have bad side effects of its own, but in the age we live in today, i don't see anything wrong with the internet being used as a tool to stay connected with people and interact in such ways

SOPA vote has been delayed until next year thanks to internet petitions & activism

and i'm not joking, the main sponsor of the bill said that he acknowledged the concerns of the opposing side and there was only a hearing

but that also means this isn't over yet and the bill could still pass in january

i don't think it will though

that's because you're so young that you don't remember how it used to be. back in my day....

btw my ideals aren't warped just because they aren't your ideals or the ideals of most people.

though i don't really think sopa should be passed, i was just making a side comment.

by that logic many other online games and communities should also be purged, you're also making huge generalizations that can't possibly apply to everyone

at the end of the day what people do in their private lives is none of your concern as long as they aren't harming anyone else

i never said they were warped, i'm just disagreeing with you and i don't follow your logic. i did directly state that sopa was bullshit though, if that's what you mean.

i like how always assume people are trying to peg you for not being mainstream enough just so you can remind everyone that you're trying very hard not to be.

but no, your ideals are warped because you would trade destruction of freedom, progress and technology for them. as much as you might dislike websites like facebook and twitter and what people use them for, in the bigger picture they're very important pieces of technology that has advanced people's right to free speech and organization more than anyone could have imagined before the advent of the internet. in fact it is thanks to social networking that many draconian pieces of legislation have been shot down due to rapid mass online protests to congress that spread via sharing. the future of our freedom lies solely in our ability to transfer information freely through the internet.

Eh, I think I have to agree with mr. bortknob on this stance more or less. I think the internet has ruined human relationships and communication (well, its hurt it more than it has helped it at the very least). However I think we've long reached the point of no return in which too many people would just be lost without their internets the way it is now.

Although witnessing the confusion could be sort of entertaining...

i think hes' full of it! it's thanks to the internet that i've been able to keep in great touch with all my friends across the country/world. be it through social networking, skype, games, w/e. i can't visit them all the time, it's just impossible as you grow up and have to deal with reality.
