Massive bump. The game is coming out next month and it looks fucking fantastic.

Sonic Generations "3 Eras" Trailers (ONE VIDEO/BEST QUALITY/NO WATERMARKS!)

In other news, the PC version has been confirmed and the specs are really demanding. [LINK] Fortunately, the PC version is pretty cheap for a brand new game. If you pre-order it, it's only $25 but $30 for its standard price is also very reasonable for a brand new PC game. Pretty sweet deal overall.
pretty standard spec requirements for a next gen game. i'll definitely get it if the reviews are good

that gameplay footage actually looks really neat

Sinitron

betcha it will be fucked up one way or another

Gladius

anyone actually looking forward to a sonic game in this day and age deserves to have the DVD fly out when the case is opened and surgically slice out their eyeballs with a razor sharp edge and pour in a vial of sulphuric acid then release a swarm of cockroaches, blowflies and beetles to nest in the burnt gaping holes and lay eggs that gradually fill their veins and organs with countless squirming bloodsucking larvae that feed on their vital fluids and reanimate the corpse into a shambling insectoid abomination that roams the earth seeking the flesh of the living until their body fully decomposes and crumbles to dust OR until they realize sonic had his day back in the 90s and will NEVER ever return to form in a billion eons

but i have to admit that gameplay video does look pretty nifty and i might just grab a PC copy

i still feel like this though. i also want a sa3

cipher

I honestly don't understand why they just don't make SA3. It's one of those games that people obviously want yet sega seems to be ignoring the idea. Unless there's some weird legal reason...

Another example of this is Star Wars: Battlefront 3. People have been asking for it forever, and if you go to most star wars games youtube videos, top rated comments are people saying that they'd rather have Battlefront 3 instead. Although what's worse about that is the fact that they started then cancelled it...

naturally

i think it's mostly because nostalgia isn't usually enough to bring a series back. nintendo is one of the only companies that manages to run off of that, though. it's the reason why both mml3 and battlefront 3 were cancelled. they thought it would flop and tbh they were probably both right.

there are tons of sequels i want made but will never happen because they wouldn't make enough money to justify it being developed.

edit: grammar

have you played sonic adventure, sonic adventure 2, sonic unleashed (sonic levels) or sonic colors? those are all excellent 3d sonic games from this last decade (although sonic adventure came out late 1999). bringing sonic back to pure 2d isn't the only way he can "return to form". sonic works just as well in 3d as mario or any other 2d platform did, it just has to be done right. imo it's a lot harder to do it with sonic because the game involves speed. but it's been done right and sonic team just needs to get their shit together.

the promising thing about this game is they're showing actual gameplay footage and not a pre-rendered cutscene like they did with all the bad sonic games (most notably sonic the hedgehog from 2006 for xbox 360).

Gladius

Probably

I just played a demo of Sonic Adventure DX for PC once and it stank

That and I wanted to post some body horror

never knew there as a pc port.. i played the original on the dreamcast pretty much the day it came out. it hasn't aged very well but for its time it was an amazing game. it was dreamcasts' #1 seller

And then Dreamcast bit the dust! Honestly I'd get this game, the last major sonic game I played was SA2, great gameplay, especially those damn chaos (raising those little monsters was addicting and fun). I'm kinda eeehh, about it being released on the 3DS. Don't get me wrong, I want it be there, maybe it'll help Nintendo get more sales on those devices (I'm still holding onto my DSi). I just hope they don't ruin that port with some shitty gimmick with 3D. Sonic could have a good home there.

And isn't that what we all want? A good home?

naturally

the 3ds port is actually looking surprisingly good so far and supposedly plays well coming from people who have tried it at gameshows or whatever. also the 3d in any game would never be game ruining, considering the majority of 3ds owners prefer to play with it turned off anyway. although if i do get this game it'll be on the ps3, just because i only like playing sonic games with a controller.

in the us, yea pretty much. but it's still very popular in japan, and regardless of its short stunt in the US, it was still an amazing console where a lot of amazing games started.

W.A.C.

All of the ports of Sonic Adventure have been bad ports. The latest PC version is a port of the XBLA/PSN version, which was a bad port of the PC version from 2003, which was a bad port of the GCN version, which was a bad port of the Dreamcast version. Sega is usually pretty shitty about ports unless the games are 2D. Kind of surprising the GCN port of SA2 ended up being such a strong port that was an improvement over the original version. Sonic Adventure DX has its advantages as well, but it's generally considered inferior to the Dreamcast version.

the 3ds port looks pretty good, i guess. the 3ds is in a bad way and could use some good games

and sonic adventure pretty much made my childhood, then I played it again many years later and it was a traumatizing experience

I think I recall the reason as to why the system was unplugged. I think the newest CEO or president of the SEGA at the time wanted to focus mainly on software. Which is a shame, because it did have an amazing library for the time. Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure, Jet Set Radio, Street Fighter 3 and the original console MMO, Phantasy Star Online. Who knows, Sonic could be around for a series of great titles. Colors was definitely fun.

@ stusader

Is that so? That's good news then.

rtil

yes, they did say that they were never gonna make another console after the dreamcast, which i think is a real shame. but ya, one of my friends lived in tokyo for a few years and he found a couple of stores that specialized in sega and dreamcast games and repair, and there were lots of popular homebrew dreamcast games.

Sinitron

what are you niggers talking about

SEGA bought exclusive rights to some fancy pants high-tech 3D graphics crap for use in arcade machines a while back, it's not entirely unlikely that it could also be applied in the development of a new console, especially considering that they won't let anyone else use it and nobody actually gives a shit about arcades, my cousin was all over that shit a while ago and talking about how great it would be to see a dreamcast 2.0

however considering how long they have been out of the game, i am personally convinced that any new SEGA consoles will be marred by the same shitty motion gimmicks and eye-obliterating 3D effects they're trying to implement with every fucking console to squeeze out a little extra money from backwards retarded consumers so even if they do unfist their own assholes it will probably be a god-damned mess RIP

I just read that with Randy Savage's voice in my head, it was the most entertaining thing I've read all night, thanks.

rtil

well in japan arcades are still very popular and that's why sega is still a very successful hardware developer there. but yes, outside of japan, arcades are unfortunately becoming a thing of the past. but i do remember sega saying they would never make another console again after the dreamcast.

but if there ever was a new sega console, i think they would be an innovator instead of a follower. sega was always ahead of its time in the console world - i mean look at the dreamcast. first 128 bit console, first online gaming console, tons of never-before-seen peripherals, the VMU.. nobody was doing that kind of stuff before sega.
