ever wanted to fly through fucking space as fast as you wanted anywhere in the universe?

then download space engine right now

use WASD to move around, click mouse move to change your direction, Q and E to rotoate, and scroll wheel to change your speed (you can go from just a couple hundred kilometers a second to hundreds of lightyears per second).

use SHIFT+H to select our "homes", the milky way, the sun, and the earth. good way of getting back to home base.

click on any star, galaxy or planet to select it. press G to go into autopilot and fly to it. press C to center on it. press T to track it.

here's a video to give you just an idea of how fucking huge space engine is:

some of the stuff you can do on planets, as well as manipulating time:

you can seriously go anywhere in the fucking universe and look at it.

one note though - the game is pretty unstable and will lag a lot on slower computers. there are graphical options you can change, probably a description on the website on how to do it. just don't get too close to some planets if you're worried about it as it will try to do a terrain generation on them.

put

iinnkk

oh my fuck
all of my nerdy space dreams have just came true
i wanted that universe sandbox so bad but this will satisfy my hunger for it
thank you rtil

rtil

you are welcome

i still get crashes and significant lag from time to time, i'm going to mess with the config file for a while and see if i can make it any better. although generating landscapes understandably takes some time. although it's still in beta, so i'm sure a lot of issues will be smoothed out when it's in version 1
