Some people, in fact im gussing the majority of the people on this forum don't know this, but we are slowly and forever being drained of our internet freedoms. Sure you probably know about the Internet Neutrality issues going on... large companies fighting to control internet space but far worse things are stirring for the next generation of computing.

Thats right windows vista will feature programs that force a licence verification on every song (and probably every movie) that you download. Stripping away your freedom to use programs such as limewire, kazza, bittorrent and many other programs that you may or many not use freely? Wasn't it bad enough they they already had region locks and stuffed spyware into your software?

Whats next? Microsoft monitored browsing? Tracking cookies built INTO the OS? The outlawing of cd and dvd burning? If the public doesn't put there foot down sometime soon its never going to end.

Why you should not upgrade to vista the facts:

On top of Nazi'ing what you download and do, Vista is a complete resource hog requiring the minimum of a whopping 512 mb of ram, and 94% of PC's do not meet the minimum system requirements for Vista Premium. When you switch over you will be wondering questions like why has My Documents turned into just "documents"? Why won't the driver for my printer work? Why are all the features mixed around, and Why does this operating system look like a cheap rip off of mac osx lite? On top of this most of the so called "new applications" also have XP incarnations in development.

My top five favorite Vista quotes borrowed from pc world magazine Jan 2007 Edition,

1) USER ACCOUNT CONTROL: Who needs a virtual nagging nanny?

2) BACKUP: How could microsoft have build suck a brain-dead application.

3) WINDOWS MEETING SPACE:: With worthless chat and no telephony, this isn't a virtual meeting i would want to attend.

4) HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS: Be prepaired to spend a bundle for hardware upgrades... or a new computer.

5) PRICE: $399 new, or $299 to upgrade to windows ultimate? No oprating system should cost this much, and thats the cheapest version. Basic $199 isnt worth the trouble.

Yes I am well aware of the built in *presents* of vista.  It is something Irishman, myself, and several other of my friends have been watching with horror.  All I can say is if it comes down to the year that microsoft stops supporting xp and I have to get vista, then I am going linux.

if at some point i HAVE to switch to vista, i'd probably have to switch to macs becuse i don't have the time to learn how to use linux.
