Cartoons or Anime?

i do enjoy anime and stuff with a lot of anime influence but honestly i like cartoons better

well it started off as the japanese attempt at imitating the western cartoon but it's sort of become sort of it's own often bizarre thing entirely, wouldn't you agree?

i guess. i think of it more as a widely popular and frequently imitated style. i still consider it just a style of cartooning, but i understood what you were implying with the topic and all. under what im assuming are your terms for "cartoon" i feel that anime cannot be compared to cartoons fairly, however.
one of the things about lots of anime is that the style used is often times very VERY similar to that of most other anime artists. unless a specific anime uses a particularly unique style (panty and stocking/ some miyazaki work/ one piece (imo) etc.) they are practically indistinguishable from one another. anime has a very strict set of rules and aside from a few subtle differences in each artists style, they are generally very alike.
however with "cartoons", you really can do anything you like! ren and stimpy looks nothing like batman, and batman looks nothing like spongebob which looks nothing like looney tunes, which looks nothing like the simpsons. you dont have to conform to any rules (well some to get aired on tv) and the art and animation is quite varied.

it always depends, really. I couldn't picture death note for example to be drawn or animated in a cartoony style. Neither could i imagine something like spongebob in anime style.

2. did you even read the post you shmook i backed up my claims and never insulted either style. if i wanted a negative reaction i would have taken a direct shot at it, and is anyone really going to deny that most anime looks very similar?

hmm alright that's a legitimate way of viewing things. historically though i was always under the perception that animes are basically just a (and i use this word as lightly as possible and only choose it because i can't think of any other words to describe it) knock-off of american cartoons that later sort of became something different entirely. but either way they are forms of animation so i don't see a reason people can't name their preference between the two. :0

as for the question at hand, i've always personally found it difficult to really get into anime s00 im gonna say cartoons.
