The waters in the bay by the golden gate bridge are really choppy with surges and waves. I've never seen this water look like this wow; it's normally very calm and low. Apparently 3 people went too close to take pics and a surge surprised them and washed them out to sea. Two got back to shore but one is still missing and the coast guard is looking for him. Meanwhile all the surfing hippies are in the water despite coast guards telling them to get out. A local interview with a surfer said "These waves are fucking crazy man! You don't get many chances to ride tsunami waves so we are out there. This is what we live to ride on. Whoo! They are very unpredictable and it can slam you pretty hard if you're not watching!"

There was a scare with one of the reactors that didn't switch off (although its cooling systems did) and although there is no radiation leakage, they evacuated everyone for safety concerns. If this gives me anything to be pleased about its that we're learning from previous nuclear disasters.

In any case, I hope Japan can recover soon and build up their strenght again. A terrible tragedy that happened to them.

It is. I'm sure Japan will recover though, they're a really really well equipped country with the support of pretty much the rest of the wealthy nations. Japan will pull through. My thoughts are to the people who've lost friends and family.

japan is a well-developed country and its leaders know they're on the middle of three tectonic plates
so they were well-prepared for this earthquake, although the damage was severe, it could have been much worse (an 8.9 would have fucked any other country up entirely)

I wish i could go out there and help them but I think that they will carry on and rebuild and start anew. They chose to live in an earthquake "hot-spot" so now they must learn and adapt to fufill the human legacy which is to adapt and survive. I have fath in Japan.

The earthquake wasn't the problem here, Japan is well equipped to deal with big earthquakes. It was the tsunami aftermath that caused most of the devastation.
It's hard to adapt to tsunamis.

this is shit writing from a wannabe journalist who has no idea what they're talking about and just wants to stir the pot. anyone who's taken the 5th grade knows that earthquakes are cause by the earth's tectonic plate movement, which the moon has no effect on. the moon only has effect on the earth's tides. but regardless of how close it may be, there was going to be a tsunami regardless.
