I'm fairly new to the game and this update brings up something i was wondering about, how exactly do you get drops in TF2? is it completely random as to when you get them and what items you get? or is there some determining  factor that I'm unaware of.

it is completely random not based on anything you actually do in the game besides how much you play. you can unlock new items for getting achievement milestones, but after that it's random drops. you can get 6-7 items in a week max, then it resets on thursday
