i think the reason people keep it a secret that they like anime is because they dont want to be generalized with the weeaboo fags who have no life and make anime-style barack obama's and cosplay as sailor moon even though they're morbidly obese.

I have a theory: In fact those people who fear being generalized and compared to that kind of weaboo you just dercribed ARE the majority and about 2.5% of the fandom (the rest), consisting of people that have Aspergers and ADHD and shit like that, keeping this stereotype no one wants to be connected with alive.
People like that exist in every kind of fandom but since no one wants to be connected with this above described cliché there aren't many people who have "I like anime" tattooed on their foreheads except for those special 2.5% which doesn't only make them feel special about their oh so infamous interest, giving them a personal satisfaction but also makes their appearence seem even stronger and makes it look like the whole fandom only consisted of this type of people, again leading to the reason why normal people fear being generalized with the whole Anime/Manga issues and their "typical" fans.

I know enough guys who enjoy some Anime without going to the next best con, dressed up as Sailor Moon to later find themselves on the cosplay acticle of ED
